My Dad has a 996 turbo, and absoloutely loves it, but feels that he should have an Italian car(lambo/fezza) before hes too old to appreciate it properly. Hes had the turbo for a year, and didnt want to get hit massively on depreciation when he sold it, he bought it for around 67 and its probably worth 55 now, so its a bit of a hit.

so there are a number of options he can take, and was wondering for a bit of advise from people who have been in a similar situation...

1. keep the turbo another year or so, and then buy a ferrari/gallardo, either a mid 50k 360, or a gallardo for around 70k.

2. hire for a number of days in the summer/ join ecurie- a way to experience the italian exotica without selling the turbo, but if he plans to get one anyway, is there much point?

3. take the hit now and accept the ferrari itch needs scratching.. go for a mid 60s 360, putting in an extra 10k, and accepting an extra 5-10k running costs a year.

4. buying a 575 in a year or two for around 70k...

anyone who has swapped 360 for turbo/ turbo for 360 ... any advise wouldbe appreciated...

The gallardo is an awesome car. I came from a 550HP 993 GT2 which was quicker than the Gallardo but not so much of an event to drive. The gallardo just has show stopping prescene. everywhere you go people stop and stare, its brilliant, that's something I never had in my Porsche. The handling and performance are truly remarkable, not so much of a seat of the pants thing as in the Porsche but proper sure footed go-kart handling.

Hope he makes the right decision

Andy.

Never owned the cars in question, but have worked on them and had alot of feedback from my customers. If your dad can afford one i would say go for either a Fezza or a Lambo.

At the end of the day you only live once.

trade offers on 04 gallardo are already about 78K so in a year when out of warranty SUB 70K will be the price

His 996 will depreciate faster once the 997 GT3 & Turbo appear.

I would get shot now and keep the cash in the bank for a year.
