evo needs your F430!
Discussion
Hi,
evo requires a Ferrari F430 for a group test taking place early next week (Monday, Tuesday and possibly Wednesday too). The car must be a hard-top, not a Spider.
If you are able to help and would like to join us on the test, please drop our man Henry Catchpole a line at henryc@evo.co.uk
Likewise, if you know anybody who might be able to help out, we'd appreciate it if you could point them in our direction.
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer (and apologies to Ted for hijacking the Gassing Station).

So they want to borrow a £120,000 car, free of charge no doubt, rag it to death, put a few hundred miles on it, and then give it back! And in return the owner gets......to watch! Oh! And the publicity that it's been driven to its' maximum! Should be helpful come resale time!i love these cheeky barstools
steve f: Expenses paid and no "ragging to death" - we are aware of the concept of mechanical sympathy, you know.
trickywoo: Yes I do work for evo now (sub editor) and I am the same bloke – and it wasn't every month.
Jonny5: If you know of a hire company with a hard-top 430, please let us know. We can only find Spiders on offer at the moment.

Should have seen what they did to my maserati 3200GTJust make sure they pay your costs on the day as getting money from these people can take a couple of months.
Just ask Trackdemon.
Personally I was not that impressed with the attitude of certain reporters on the day - Henry is decent chap though.
Re : Pictures - Not that impressed with the Pics at all and thats after they turned up 2 months late.
Once they get hold of your car they couldnt give a toss about keeping their side of a gentlemans agreement up - Beware.

Could you please expand on what's involved in a "group test"? Do you verify the manufacturer's performance figures? How many miles do you test the car for? Etc.Etc

I loaned EVO my Elise Sport 190 for the 2002 Track Car Of The Year feature and was very happy with the way they treated it, and me. It was a fun experience, and I got a new set of tyres out of it.

And if Ferrari don't have one, surely some of the dealers still have 430 demonstrators

It doesn't imply anything of the sort, you and just about everyone else in this thread have jumped to massively incorrect conculusions.
I think the conversation went something like:
"Hello It's EVO magazine can we borrow your car please?"
"Ok, it'll cost you a set of tyres"
"OK. See you at Bedford, then".
Everyone is happy.

If you dont want to loan them your car then you dont (not that you have a 430 anyway). They are not forcing you.
I cant see it getting any more wear and tear than it would if the owner takes it out for the day himself and the owner will have a nice day out and some nice pictures of his car.
Shame that a lot of Ferrari owners would rather keep their cars in a garage

So it was just a gentle run out, not a full-on test of the car's abilities? The car was never revved to within 20% of its' limit? The braking was never tested under maximum load and to achieve minimum stopping distance? There was no 0-60 test? Or top speed?
I'm just curious as to what's involved in an Evo "road test". I certainly wouldn't lend my car to TopGear for instance as you can see every week how they treat them!I just want to know the differences.
I "loaned" my Camaro Z28 to Custom Car in 1976 , Peter Dron was the journo then , did a great article and I`ve still got a copy to read when I can remember were I`ve put my glasses, superb photos taken in downtown Croydon.
If I had a 430 I`d be delighted to hand to it over so I can read about it in 30 years time, you cynics don`t know you`re born.

Would you hand over the keys to 120 grands worth of car that you've waited 3 years to get to someone you have only just met so that he can do what he wants? Well if you would, you're either stupid or you run one of the Supercar rental agencies!
