Tyres for my 4200 - advice please..!!

Hi all

Had my 4200 since Oct 2005, and after 12,000 very happy miles , need new rears.. (fronts have plenty of tread left!).

Presently have Michelin Pilot Sports, and I'm pretty darn happy with the grip they've given me, and despite regular 'spirited' driving , only occasionally light up the 'ASR' warning....

So, what I'm after:

1. Any comments on Michelin Pilot Sports or experience of alternatives?
2. Where do you buy your tyres?

Best price I've found so far (without looking too hard) is £215.90 each (incl VAT and fitting from etyres.co.uk).....

Would welcome any comments please......

I've changed to goodyear f1 gds3s (or something like that!) Pretty good in wet and dry and only needed to change the rears phone depends where you are in the country but Humphries in bracknell/bagshot have always done me proud - ring up bracknell tyre and exhaust first to get a quote then humphries will beat it.

On my 3200 I have tried just about all the big brands.
Michelins, pants in the wet.
Pirreli's, far to soft for normal road use. Wore a set of rears out in 3.5k !
Bridgestones, pretty good but just didn't "feel" right.
The best I have found are Toyo proxes. Loads of grip regardless of weather, decent wear (done 9k so far on rears and still only half worn. Nice tread pattern and decent(ish) price.
I doubt there is much difference (regarding tyres) on 32's to 42's.

Hummm, my 4200 now has Dunlop's which handle quite well. Beforehand it had Pirelli's which, as Dave said, are a bit in the softer side for my taste.

I changed ours to Eagle F1's too, 2/3 price of the Michelins and work just as well. I've stopped using Bracknell Tre & battery as they are so busy all the time, I now use Martin's tyres in West End, Woking, cheaper than BT&B and quick service.

Get a quote from B T&B and use humphries (the ones with the yellow sign)

Just got a quote for Michelin Pilot Sport 2's at 160+vat inc fitting each, go to Southall Tyres on Lady Margaret Road. Used before with my other cars, good service.

I too have Pilot Sports on my 4200 and whilst they are fine in the dry (when warm) they are shocking in the wet. Ran Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3's on my M5 which I thought were superb, very good in both dry and wet and also lasted very well. I will be changing to these when current Michelins run out. Hope this helps.

I use Event Mobile Tyres as they are cheap and come out to you.
Always been impressed with the cost and service. A little birdy told me that many southern Porsche dealers use them too.

Simonspider kindly recommended www.micheldever.co.uk to me , who were the cheapest by far for the Pirelli fronts on my car (235/35/18)
