Growling noise from under car when accelerate up top 3-4000rpm, but immediatley ceases when take foot off gas OR keep foot down and will disappear as you drive through noise but can be heard again at higher speeds. Turbos continue to whistle as norm and performance unaffected. Almost like the resonating of an unbalanced bit. The noise only occurs when driving. You can rev the **** out of it with no problem when stationary.

Been on maserati diagnostic in Colchester, no faults detected. Throttle body taken off and securely fixed, noise remains. Has anybody experienced before? I could do without spending all my cash in a workshop looking for needle in a haystack!!

I would prefer the Italians to make cars not kick a ball around.

Hi Mark, does it only do it when the weather is hot? if so I had a similar sounding problem on mine a little while after I first got it. Like you say it doesn't affect the performance and only seems to occur at certain rev ranges. Eventually tracked it down to a mis align air intake pipe to the air box. It was cured at the next service when the filters were changed and the pipe was re-aligned.
Mine was a deep growling undertone kinda noise and no no-one could explain how/why the misaligned pipe should cause this affect.
Hope this helps.

The noise does sound like an air pipe adrift, there are smallish pipes between the turbos and the induction side of the engine. On the O/S these pipes can rub on the a/c pipe causing a hole. I would suggest getting the pipes checked for correct fitment and for holes as necessary.

Hope this helps

Thank you very much indeed. Will suggest these checks to Maserati.

It just had its major 43k service there in May so not sure if they could have disturbed something then or its "just one of those things".

Thing is it went into workshop with a throttle body problemn I that needed replacing but it also came out with 4 new problems! That all said, I love my maser!

i just had a thought and it isn't one of the turbo pipes that has come off? these are very tricky to see but could also create the problem you have listed.

Well I left it with Maserati for a couple of days who had no idea. It is being sorted elsewhere next weekend and I will post the outcome but it appears that it could be that the air box cover on drivers side may have lost its vacuum (is loose) and this I hope creates the noise? Long shot but you never know! Otherwise all the pipes will be checked as you suggested.

As an aside, had the drivers side dent/deep scratches repaired to perfection for only £270 cash!!

I have a simple question - does turning the air con off make any difference?

The air con makes no difference. I have put loads of tape around the air cover and it seems to work! Can you believe it; 2 days in a workshop and it looks like a 2p screw will do the job (fingers crossed). Will post the outcome next weekend.

Did you know you can buy the screws in Halford for tenth of the price that Maserati charge?

Are you sure the captive nut part is attached to the rear of the airbox - these do break off and then there is nowhere to fit the screw.

Have a qucik look, hope his helps
