Hi there,

I'm planning a little trip to the South of France next month with the F430. I was thinking about the width of the carriages and specifically the metal rails running along the sides of the train floor? Have any of you taken your pride and joy on the Eurotunnel? The thought of kerbing my lovely wheels is making me want to rake the wifes car....hoepfully one of you has done the trip in a wide Lambo or Ferrari and can reassure me!

Cheers

James

PS The 430 is as awesome as all the reviews claim.

You should be ok but if worried then follow the high vehicle lane and you'll find it's also very wide.

Request the coach/lower deck carriages - they are slightly easier to get in and out of. Eurotunnel staff are always very helpfull on this. Just took 5 Fcars on it, did it with 40 last year.

Cheers chaps - I'm going to use the coach / bus lane to give myself some extra room I think. It seems like Le Gandarmes are really clamping down on any yone deemed to be in danger of enjoying themselves, what a shame. I don't have any Road Angel type of gizmo (that makes them really wild apparently) but have any of you got any tips on how to stay out of 'le clink' whilst 'making progress' in France?

stay off the autoroutes (unless you want to stick to under 160 kmph) and stick to normal roads.Drive sensibly through any built up area and you'll be totally fine.

Jim

I've just come back from a 14 day jaunt across the tunnel to Monaco and St Tropez via the Dijon and managed to enjoy the performance of the car to the max without giving too much away.

With regards to using the Auto routes i had no problem with them timing cars and on the occasions i got caught speeding, one resulted in a thumbs up from the police, one resulted in a shake of the head, one in a police escort from a Subaru Imprezza which caught up with me at a 3 figure speed lights going and gave me a thumbs up as he passed, it was only the notorious speed trap at Calais that resulted in a 90 Euro fine which i had to pay on the spot.

Don't get me wrong before other users recount their own experiences perhaps i was lucky as i know from my own bitter experience two years ago and a 750 Euro fine that the French Gendarme can indeed be very forceful, i think it comes down to place and time

Good luck and enjoy the trip..

I have used Eurotunnel a lot with my 430 with no problem at all.

The kerbs are rubber protected so you cannot harm your wheels.

That's interesting timing, I've just booked a crossing for this Friday for my 360 and was wondering which lane to go for. Decided on the high lane in the end, mainly because I haven't done many miles in it yet and don't want to risk kerbing it.

Although these rubber lined bits look harmless, it depends on the tyre profile/wheel width, a few years ago I scraped a magnesium rim on my integrale - I nearly cried - pure carelessness though. The 360's just that bit wider though and to date I find it quite hard to judge exactly how wide it is.

I'm off to Switzerland for some fun on the cols :-)
