on a recent trip from london to alton towers i hit a giddy 16mpg!!! otherwise anywhere between 9 - 15 mpg mixed everyday driving! the worst thing is when pushing hard you can hear the petrol being sucked thru! BTW i currently alternate between super plus and regular unleaded...what do the rest of yous do?

Varied. Had 18.7 mpg at best, 14-ish average, 12 when clogged in Central London.

13-14 is my average, have seen as high as 17, but that was taking it very easy, worst was a serious hoon where I got 9 !! - as was already noted, could hear it being sucked out...

As mine spends most of its time in London I rarely see anything above 12mpg but have seen 9 too often for comfort! In addition, has anyone experienced an intrusive whine from the back which I can only assume is the fuel pump? Used to be noticeable when the tank got to about 1/4 full but now makes itself heard when 3/4 full. Is this a sign that my fuel pump is on the way out? Thanks.

Mine is used everyvday and mostly see high 14's to early 15's. On a run I once saw 17.2! Worst I have seen was 9 after a blast on my second day of ownership - that scared me! Best advise - don't look!

Last week, decided to see if I was still getting the 'typical' 14mpg on the 4200... and was surprised to see I was up in the 18s... realise it will be a more 'careful' driving style, and not making as much use of Sport button this time of year....

Anyone else??

Never seen > 20 MPG, usually 14 - 18. Lots of stop/start driving though. BTW aren't the gallons as measured on the computer of the U.S variety? If so, can't you add another 25% on top of your MPG figures?

Maser GranSport - 11mpg....maybe 14mpg on a long run and driven like a Saint.

A bit shocking really - why are they so thirsty ?

I'm surprised at the figures here. When I first got mine (May 06) I was getting about 12 - 14 mpg. These days I seem to be stuck on 9.5, and I'm not spanking the merry ar5e out of it. That is for a short commute journey - about 4 miles each way, and mostly moving along at 30 - 35 mph. I've been wondering if I should take it back for a tune-up. Any views?

Just been checking through my info centre handbook and yes it suggests that the MPG is measured in US gallons. Now that is a result - my average rises to over 19 and my best to over 21 - positively frugal. This could also explain servicing costs - are they priced in dollars?

They do feel like they're priced in USD - and still bloody expensive even at the current exchange rates !
