according to AUTOCAR who tested it against a new 911 turbo & the ferrari F430. it won the test easily.

also in this months EVO the gallardo spyder beats the F430 spider.

only 2 more weeks until i get to find out for myself!

Depends what you want the car for really. I like to tour Europe but as good as the Gallardo is there is no way of getting 2 weeks luggage in.

me too!!!

both articles are good reads although i thought the EVO one should've been longer considering it was the 1st comparison of these 2 models i have seen anywhere.

IMHO the F430 spider look really unresolved & cluttered compared to the clean lines of the gallardo spyder.

Sorry Bad Company hate to disagree but.............

Myself and my 7 month pregnant wife took a two week driving holiday in June in my Gallardo to Dijon, Monaco, St Tropez and back to Dijon before returning to the UK..

Apart from a damaged bank balance from the petrol bills, the holiday was superb....

Roll on the Gallardo....

Where on earth did you put the luggage - from memory there is a postage stamp sized 'boot' at the front and in the Spider nothing much in the car.

The car performed faultlessly throughout with some fairly enthusiastic driving for the best part of each journey one of which included just over an hour in the Paris Friday afternoon rush hour which was all 1st and 2nd gear speed.

The only fault to appear which wasn't actually a problem for me was the Check Engine light which came on a few times after 2 hours plus continuous driving but i have had this before and had the vehicle checked. It seems to be a common problem with Tubi equipped cars?

As for luggage yes it’s not a Grand Tourer by any stretch of the imagination but to be fair but we fitted 2 good sized holdalls in the bonnet/boot area and two other linen bags as well.
We then had two suit carriers behind the drivers and passenger seats on the shelf area and actually had my wife's collection of handbags behind the seats at the floor level.

You have to understand the handbags were part of the driving deal

. You must be blind - It is an object of great beauty - so is the Lambo. For me the Lambo is a bit austere in the cabin.

I really like the Gallardo and had a deposit on one for a while. I was turned off by the lack of luggage space - I really need space to take 2 weeks + luggage. Bear in mind it would have to be a Spider which has very little space inside the cabin.

i'm not blind, its simply an opinion. i've owned 4 ferraris the last being a 360 silver spider & was all set to upgrade to the F430 spider until i saw it. then the gallardo spyder was previewed at motor shows & my mind was made up. the gallardo is a much cleaner shape, with an uninterupted line from wing mirror to tail lights. the F430 roll hoops & cowls do nothing for me. neither do the peculiar rear haunches/air intake.

as i say its my opinion, which i'm entitled to, but if you see the articles i mentioned at the beginning of this thread, both magazines share my view.

in fact i'd go so far to say that when viewed side by side if you asked anyone who had any knowledge of car design their opinion, i'd be amazed if any of them picked the ferrari as the purer shape.

I agree!! The 430 is a beautiful Coupe but loses quite a lot with the roof removed. The Lambo has much purer lines and IMHO looks as striking and achingly beautiful in Coupe and Spyder form!!

At the risk of being controversial:

1) I'm also not convinced these are "supercars" in the old meaning of the word. Are any of them to other cars what things like the Countach, Miura, Testarossa or Daytona were in their day? Not really.

The level has been raised by Mundanos being able to travel just as quickly etc, and they're going to be too common once every premiership footballer has one of each. I also can't imagine any of them provoking the same sort of reaction the Countach did to give it its name.

Evo can put these cars in the hatchback section but it doesn't make it so necessarily.

2) The Gallardo is the most cohesive design, but the interior's rubbish (unless your "Supercar" should look like a daily hack inside). If the Gallardo's rear lights were better (and the interior truly special) I'd be a fan.

3) Much is going to depend what you want from a car. I think Mr Sutcliffe's getting too chubby and soft in his dotage - to prove he's missing the point completely, did you read the panel on the M6? Perhaps if the aim were to be buying a banzai motor the result would have been different...
