355 on the cards maybe..
Discussion
If things go well and I get a good settlement, I will be in the market for a 355 (ideally GTB, but remains to be seen)... Rob, hope you're not reading this, get back to sorting this out!
As a matter of course, could people please deposit links to various 355's for sale on this thread that they think viable, so I can keep them all in one place. Budget circa <£40k. Thanks!
Been reading up and know the usual, bubbling, sills, valves and pipes issue, but recently read about the brakes?
Now the M3 has very widely referred to as "crap brakes", but the 355 also? Shirley-not?
If so, would a pad, lines and fluid change overcome this? Have no intention of spending silly money on a car to then not be 100% happy.

Panel alignment seems very poor around the headlamps and front bumper.
Front bumper also appears to be scuffed slightly.
I called about this car two weeks ago in the view of p/exing my 993 against it but the guy said he only wanted cash, and has not called back since.
He aslo told me that it had had a full respray with in the last 6mths in essex not buy a ferrari dealer, the reason that it had been done aledgedly was because the previous owner was a perfectionist !!!! ..... ummm had'nt noticed the pannel gaps my self but also did't bother taking it any further as it was all starting to sound a bit dodge
However it may all be genuine ...........

I've had mine for about 6 months now. Brakes are stunning. Body panel alignment around the front is not perfect but I dont care and nor do the hundreds of admirers of the car that have spoken to me. There was a tiny amount of corrosion around the rear pilars but the dealer pointed this out and did a superb repair befor he would sell the car.
The cornering is unbelieveable (book says .97g lateral and I believe that).
I've had the imobiliser refuse to mobilise a couple of times and I had to change the battery.
IMO just get one!!!!

found it on the thread regarding modifying a 360 or not...
Basher's remarks...
2 follow on points - I disagree that you cannot improve over what ferrari ahve done at the factory - false....the brakes on the 355 are sh*t...I would say that was the best 3k i ever spent.Likeiwse the stock exhaust sounds sh*t as well - the ITO sorted that out... also the headlights are pants adn you can get the halogen upgrade....IMHO that makes it a better car.....I also think it is a little underpowered and the design of the airbopxes right above the red hot exhaust is a little daft - so a titanuium heat shield adn the gruppe M ram system with sports filteres makes a huge difference to the cars perfomance......
Basher, why did you dislike the car so much in standard dress?

You misunderstand me - I did not dislike it so much its jsut a factor of owning one for a long time - to start with you are overcome with emotion towards it - its beautiful, it sounds great , it goes well, it handles like a dream however after a while (especailly when you have heard tubi's etc..) you realise that all is not perfect adn can be improved.... I give it to you that the car is near damn perfection and the only points i disliked were points that took a long time to hit me - you will find that with any car you use heavily over a 3yr period ....
I did not see anything else out there that i wanted to change the 355 for so I changed the bits n bobs on the car that i was not so impressed with.... I think the brakes are fine on the road but heavy use or on the track adn they are not too hot (or actually they are - they were on fire at Bruntingthorpe) - for £3k the upgrade made the car a different animal and gave you the confidence to drive it a little harder) -all this IMHO of course..... brake upgrades are all available from Verdi for reasonable money .... in fact might change them on my 550 soon as well..... one downside is that the pagid pads did squeal when cold .... non bon ....
Anyway after this diatribe do not think I am slagging the 355 off - IMHO it is still the most beautiful, well balanced ferrari ever made - it stirs all the senses...but like I said after 3 years of banging Kate Moss you'd prob take her for a boob job - know what i mean ??

i think i understand more about your comments now - on the other thread, they just seemed a tad strong, but it's clearer now.
With regards to hard driving, how would you define that?
2 or 3 stops from triple figures in the M3 and the brakes give up. Something similar or does it take a bit mroe stick?
