What's the budget you need to run a Ferrari?
Discussion
Let me be more specific here... Interested in cars post 1995...F355, 360, 456, Maranello's etc...with about 25,000 miles on the clock.
Only weekend use (max 40 miles over the weekend) with the occasional storm out into/across the country.
Car will be kept covered, but not in a garage!
How do these running costs compare to something like a TVR, Porsche or Aston of similar vintage?

If you visit this site www.fcars.co.uk there's loads of info including running reports, lists of specialists, insurance info etc. There's also lots of DIY info if you're that way inclined.

I wouldn't look at a 348 it's a bit of a tractor, I wan't impressed with the drive I had when looking at Fezza's.
Heavy steering, very heavy clutch, dogleg 1st, flakey trim quality, antiquated look......inside....no I wouldn't honestly.

Its the 355 for me at some point. I just need some figures to see if I can afford to run it with my other motoring costs.
If you're interested in a Ferrari, as opposed to the fastest thing on the planet, you shouldn't overlook the Mondial. It might not go as fast or handle as sharply as some of the later 2-seater Ferraris, but it's still a Ferrari that promises to be cheaper to buy, it'll depreciate less, and the classic insurance agreements it'll be liable for are less likely to fuss over it not being kept in the garage.
It also does 18-25 mpg and, perversely, is less common than an F355. Also, you'll never see an MR2 dressed up to look like one.
£25k will buy the absolute best - possibly even a convertible. And there's room for kids/suitcases.
It really is the best 'proper' Ferrari bargain out there. A 400i will eat all your money, and a 308GT4 will fall apart every time you turn it on.
Failing that, what about a Lancia Thema Ferrari 8.32? Basically, a 4-door Ferrari, with the 328 engine, a restyled dashboard with cowled instruments, all the leather and sound effects, plus a proper boot, four doors and four proper seats. OK, so it's front wheel drive and probably torque-steers a bit, but for £6k for your average example who's complaining? (ask justayellowbadge for his ownership experience).

They don't turn me on enough. My uncle used to have a 400i...
I adore the 355 shape and sound. The 360 while a superior machine, doesnt it for me as much. It'll be one of those two one day.

There's a bloke who doesn't live far from me who has a DB6 that he usually leaves parked on his drive.
It's not even an uber-posh area - he's an older chap and I get the idea he probably bought the DB6 in the late '70s when it wasn't worth anything.

Sam (Twincam16),
How many GT4's have you owned? I currently have two and over the 5 years I've owned them nothing has fallen off! They're well built, cheap to maintain and the engines anre widely accepted as being pretty much bullit proof. Good for 150mph+ as well.
AdvocatusDiaboli, Don't let anyone talk you out of the 355. They are quite simply one of the best and most usable supercars ever built. The 360 lost it a bit but Ferrari have now recovered with the 430.
One thing though, you've got to get rid of the Porsche, they won't get on with each other. Regarding garaging, couldn't you rent one locally or even find a mate who doesn't keep his car in his.

Nope, am pretty set on one at some point. Question is when! Over the next year I am going to either buy a TVR/964 T to keep my 944 T company, or ditch the 944 and get a f355. Of course, I will have to get a cheap runabout for nipping down to the shops...
Problem is that I love that Turbo Cab of mine. Rare as hen's teeth and a true usable supercar (well, it was when it was new anyway!). Never fails to start and take me wherever, rain or shine. The acceleration in the mid-ranges is motorway heaven too... Either way, one can have one's cake and eat it too. Decisions need to be made and service costs/time car will spend in garage is a factor!

Might get a better response in the Ferrari/Lambo/Maser section
