The BEST SUPERCAR of all time...............................
Discussion
Warning this thread contains hot automotive sex
Just to keep the supercar theme going, as it seems we are split into two broad camps as to what is a supercar, I thought I'd ask people to list their THREE all time great supercars, defining them as you each see fit AND explaining your ranking.
I'll start with:
1/ F40.
It's a Ferrari, the iconic supercar marque. The F40 redefined the supercar, possibly even creating the classification. A car made without compromise. A race car for the road. Brutally fast, and RAW to drive, a true driver's car. The last and greatest Ferrari blessed by Enzo, and the one he chose as his favourite road Ferrari post Daytona. Aggressive looks and stands out even amongst a group of other Ferraris or supercars.
No petrolhead with half a braincell could argue this car is not a supercar
In short, the ultimate supercar.
2/ McLaren F1.
Performance that's out of this world. Another car made without compromise. Another race car for the road. A car that's performance is still a benchmark.
3/ F50.
Beautiful sculpted looks, with the best sounding engine in the world, ever. Second best looking car ever built (second to the F330 P4). Unfortunately, the car was built with some compromises, to make it more civilised than the F40, and as a result it never eclipsed its illustrious predecessor.
If I were a billionnaire, I'd own all three and thrash the nuts off them
PS. I left the Enzo out of MY top 3 as it suffers from somewhat disjointed looks, and is a computer on wheels in my opinion. Same with the Zonda's due to their odd disjointed looks. I left the Countach out because it's a dog to drive.
So, that's:
1/ Ferrari F40
2/ McLaren F1
3/ Ferrari F50

Some would say the F50 also has disjointed looks. But it has to be the F50 for me all day long
becourse they are rare and wonderfull. Then it would be the Zonda F spider becourse its a carbon fiber dream machine. And third the Mclaren F1 becourse i can take my sons out for a spin with me.

1) Murcilargo - saw one at the MPH show last year and my god that is the car I want to own when I can afford one. It's more beuatiful in the flesh than in the magazines.
2) 360 - so much better looking than the 430 and makes a great noise.
I can't decide which one I like more, so they're both the best supercars of all time.

First has to be the Mclaren F1. Probably the last ever total uncomprimising Supercar ever to be built.
Second has to be the Enzo and in truth only because it is the only Supercar I have ever had the opportunity to drive.
Third has to be the Zonda F. Never had the opportunity to drive one but I am told by those that have that the build quality far exceeds any other Supercar on the market today.

I might be slightly biased but
1) F40 - the car I have always wanted to own and still have my original poster from when I was 14 when it came it out. First real 200mph car and still as amazing now as nearly 20 years ago. A car that couldn't be built now due to the legistration for manufacturers.
My car
2) F1 - has to be on list. Gordon Murray knew no comprises when building and designing this car. Just think - it was a road car that won Le Man. It won't ever happen again.
3) Enzo- I am a ferrari fan and is the only car I can see myself selling the F40 for ( if they ever come down in value!)
Also worth mentioning in veryon. Similar to F1 in the no comprise but completely different in way they went about it. Heavy car but bloody quick.
Think you have to define "supercar" with respect to when it was brought out. A 250 GTO in the 60's was a supercar and can still go round goodwood very quickly but unfair to compare with an enzo. Every new decade will set new standards. My mini cooper S nearly as quick as the cosworth I lusted over in the 90's.

oooh, how hard is this ?
not sure if I can get it down to 3... but....
1. F40 - It is the Ferrari that most excites me, though the 288GTO runs it close (yes, yes I know the history) - and if I were offered both, I'm not sure I wouldn't take the 288GTO... the 288GTO Evoluzione REALLY is something in the flesh....
2. Bugatti EB110 - there was a stunning one @ Goodwood the other year entirely in Carbon fibre..... wow....
3. Miura SV - there's got to be a Lambo on the list, and this is the most beautiful car on the planet... I especially like the lack of wing mirrors...
erm.. the problem with a list of 3 is that I can't put the F1 on the list, and although I want the other cars more, surely the F1 is THE ULTIMATE supercar, still unbeatable imho !
Gotta say though, Enzo is not a beautiful car, but when you see one on a public road it is outrageous beyond belief..... vroooooom !!!!!
And what if they made the Maserati Birdcage... ?????

I must admit that I have never been an ardent Ferrari fan but the F40 was about the only one on my list of cars that I would love to own. I have never driven one but a while back I had the opportunity to sit in one. Now i'm not saying that this is a bad thing but for me it is too much out and out race car inside. The mate who owns it in his own words takes it out once a month in the good weather for a spin for a couple of hours and then puts it back to bed. It just is not a nice car to live with. His other half refuses to go in it anymore as the turbo lag just makes her feel sick.
Before the comments start to fly he is not a wus, owning and racing a variety of cars including a Carrera GT, 246 GT dino, Porsche 997 supercup car and a 962 to name but a few. In my opinion the Pagani is probably the best built and the most useable supercar available today.
