I am interested in finding out realistic running costs of a 360. Can you really do 8k miles a year without killing them and your pocket? what costs should I be aware of that I may have missed? all and any advice is very much appreciated, thanks

Well their not cheep that’s for sure.
I have done 25K miles in my 1999 360F1 in just under 2 years.
Hear is a watered down version of the costs
After market warranty (not worth having)@ £995
Set of 19" wheels and tyres @ £2000 (ebay)
Service x 4 @ 650 each = £2600
Crash at Oulton park track day @ £1980
Clutch and front wishbone work @ £2077
Replace front wishbones @ £850
Cam belts and some other bits @ £939
2 x rear tyres @ £644
Replace anti roll bar drop links @ £235
Another clutch + Sports exhaust + challenge grill + stone chips @ £4914
Top up AC and other bits @ 500
Re weld broken CAT @ £684
Fix car after another track day including cam belts cam tensioners 4 tyres and a load of other stuff (no crash involved) @ £4161

Take a average of 14 miles to the gallon = 1785 gallons of gas @ £4.0/gallon = £7140

Total for = £29719 for 2 years my god that’s £14859 a year + insurance and depreciation.
Depreciation is roughly £10000 for 2 years
And insurance is about £1200 per year (for the miles I do)

Total bill for 2 years motoring = £42119 = £21059 per year = £1754 per month = £56 a day = £2.35 per hour (24 hours a day every day)

Hey but its only £ 1.68 per mile (when you say it like that it doesn’t sound so bad.

Oh Bugger I wish I hadn’t worked this out now.

I tell you what though I have had a real blast, travelled in Europe, track days, kids to school, shopping at Sainsbury’s, work and back. I use it every day hail rain or shine, I even used it in snow once, but I wouldn’t recommend it as you can get the thing going but you can’t stop or steer. And I wouldn’t swap it for anything, well maybe a 430 or better still a 430 challenge.

Don’t delay buy one today.

Oh yea I forgot you have to buy the car and pay the finance charges that’s about another 10k on a 70k loan over 3 years

But not wanting to put you off a 360 you could do it for a lot less.
Say 12K miles in 2 years.
Service x 2 @ 650 each = £1300
Clutch (maybe you need one every 10K miles in an F1) £1000
Cam belts and some other bits @ £939
2 x rear tyres @ £644

Assuming nothing breaks!!!

Take a average of 14 miles to the gallon = 928 gallons of gas @ £4.0/gallon = £3712

Total for = £7595 for 2 years that’s £3795 a year + insurance and depreciation.
Depreciation is roughly £10000 for 2 years
And insurance is about £800 per year

Total bill for 2 years motoring = £19915 = £9597 per year = £800 per month = £25 a day = £1 per hour (24 hours a day every day)

Sounds better

Thanks ChrisBo - well even though it's expensive I am going to do it for sure! I just have to try and have to experience it plus I will run another car day to day so only do 6-8k miles a year in it and if it breaks I will simply leave it in my garage until I have the money to repair her.

Who did you get your warrenty through as I was going to take out the Ferrari Power Chain warrenty and wondered if that is any good? I am also going to get a manual so hopefully the clutch will last a bit longer on that? maybe I am dreaming so tell me if I am.

The only thing in my way at the moment is selling my 996 TT so once she is off I will be signing on the line once I find my perfect car.

great breakdown of the cost Chris. Very much sounds like my experiences . Good to see someone using their car properly and being honest about the costs!

Off set the higher running costs of the 360 with the higher depreciation of the 996Turbo & I would imagine its not too different.

You quote £10k in 2 years for depreciation.

I lost £22k in 2 years on my 996TT. That balances things up a bit !

My approximate costs after one year of ownership and 12000 miles (I have more detailed costs at home):

Insurance (Footman James): 3300
Petrol: 2900
Tax: 170
Service (plus clutch, track rod ends, discs and pads all round - Verdi): 5700
Stone chips and alloy refurb (Verdi’s mate): 2300
Tyres (2 pairs of rears due to 2 flats – mytyres.co.uk): 800
Parking: 1000

So that’s about 16K before you include the lease payments and depreciation.

The insurance has come down by 400 this year, hopefully I won’t need an alloy refurb and will avoid any flats. The front bumper needs a respray already! The brakes should be good for a while but it will need a cambelt service and maybe another clutch next time round.

So on balance I’m expecting running costs to be around 10K for the second year of ownership.

Hey Chris, if it cheers you up, you could have run a TVR Cerbera for that. I worked mine out once... www.pikeynet.com/stuff/runningcosts.htm

See - £21,000 a year

I wouldn’t bother with a warranty they aren’t worth a Wa*K I had a problem with the front wishbones and, basically the ball joint had warn and you have to replace the entire wishbone (now they have a fix, but that’s another story) Warranty wouldn’t cover as they weren’t broken, they where only worn.
When you read the small print they only cover "Broken items" not items that are worn an don’t work properly.
Save your self the money.
With regard to servicing and fixing the car I would recommend using an Independent dealer, I use Italia Autosport Near Huddersfield, but I have also had good reports of Verdi and some others depending on your location.
Go and speak to the nearest independent dealer and get them to inspect the car of buy from them.
Stay away from the Main Dealers unless you like having your “pants set on fire”..

Okay, so running costs will be a bit more than my 996TT but depreciation is lower. I noticed a couple of you have had resprays on the front - why dont you get paint protection on it instead?

My theory is worst case it breaks badly then it just sits there until I have the money and always keep a slush fund for it.

Any of you had problems with them being vandalised?

The thing that puts me off Verdi is the look of the place but if you all say they are good I will trust you and use them for servicing but when I turned up there once before it looked a bit mickey mouse to be honest - obviously that is not the case.

I know a lot of people have had various kinds of paint protection applied but IMHO unless you get it perfect it looks bad plus it's just as expensive as having chipsaway do your front bumper once a year.

Never been vandalised but I don't park on the street overnight. I do however park it on the street during the day and evenings quite often and have never had problems.
