Need to replace the original mild steel silencers, what options have other drivers taken?

Must have a stainless system for long life.
Would like it to sound a bit better / louder - but must still be civilised at cruise speeds.
would not mind if it gave a couple more HP
would prefer to fit systems as proven by another 3200 owner

So far i know about
Tubi - reviews seem good hence top price £1200
eurospares - no reviews but decent price £650 + vat
larini - no reviews no idea about price £???
Custom made - anyone tried this ??

My regular mechanic wants to try making some straight through pipes to replace the silencers. Can retain the origianl looking tips.
Anyone tried this ? If must be f****ing loud ! eek

Can anyone tell me just how noisy Tubis are?

I see the vid clip on the website - but I tend not to sit there parked and rev the nuts off my car. Just want to know day to day driving, motorways, idle, pick up, etc.

Cheers

Pete,
You've been in my 3200 last september at Virginia Water and you seemed impressed with the Tubi's.It's not intrusive when you are at speed but when you start cold there are times when i wish i had something quieter. The car attracts a lot of interest anyway and i'm never sure whether the exhaust contributes to this. The man at Maranello reckons it's the quickest 3200 he has ever driven so maybe the Tubi's add extra BHP.It does fly and the noise is terrific. If i bought another(thinking about a 4200) i probably would opt for a quieter mode-must be getting old!

Thanks Mark - Yes that's it! I remember. Yeah did like them then!
Gone and done it, will be fitted at the 31K service at Lancasters.

Not the cheapest, but hopefully quality will out!!

On the original point - tubi every time. Stainless, fantastic sound and not particularly intrusive at cruise. Loud (gutteral is the word I think) at tickover though.

Hurrah! Told you it was a good un! Glad you're enjoying her - and remember to mail me if you're ever selling. The Mog is fantastic and I'll not be parting with it, but I do miss that seat of the pants thrill of the twin turbo rush

P.S. If you think the tubi is loud the Aero Sports exhaust is rated at 105db - fantastic in tunnels!

Anyone tried larini on a 3200 ?
had quick and detailed response from their sales team, which was nice Claim to have worked hard on developing good product specifically for thsi car. offer lifetime guarantee also.

no affilaition with larini - just passing on commnent - would like to hear wav files from any 3200 owners with replacement zorst.

There will be sound files up on the website next week for sure. Best to wait to hear the clips, as opposed to going off web-comments as we have just released an all-new design for our “Sports” Rears. We are taking pre-orders now on the next batch coming through.

3200 going into workshop saturday for MOT and zorst bandage. We will try to remove silencers if possible to check out the noise, just hope it doesn't set fire to rear diffuser. Will take a camera

I had a set of Quick silver back boxes on my old 3200GT (Auto), and whilst they did give the car a little more urgency the trade off in town was too high. The car would boom to such an extent that it made the journey into work quite unbearable.

Don't know how Ansa are nowadays but a few years ago they used to build their exhaust out of scrap Fiat 127s...awful!

Sounds worrying - I was hoping to get quicksilvers on my car but now concerned they may be too loud. They can't be louder than holes in the standard back boxes can they?

Are larinis quieter?

Had a set of std Larinis fitted a couple of months ago , nice burble on tick over , not intrusive with normal driving - but louder when the car is driven harder .

Right,

You can fit SS straights to replace the back silencers, from the mid-muff onwards and get some Magnaflow dual-core (or dual-layer, can't excatly remember how they call 'em) tips and you will be impressed. Has to be done by someone who knows what's doing, not your average Kwik-Fit. Bit of pop-pop (some ppl like it, others not) on down rev'ing but you could add a glasspack and listo.

As good as much more expensive sports rear muffs, at a fraction of the cost. Tips are about 100 quid x 2 units + the tailor-made pipes + installation.

Larini quality is exceptional, but sound-wise not as deep as a Tubi. Other option is to keep the rear muffs and replace the center section (from the cats onwards) with the Larini mid-section X-straights... adds a bit of growl past 4k revs. Quicksilvers are also extremely well built. You could try Fuchs... very many options outta there, but again, straights from mid muff + good tips is as good and much cheaper.

Just my 2 cents.

Larinis sounding good now - I drive my car every day school run then on to work so I would prefer not much more noisy than standard pipes. Are Quicksilvers a lot noisier though as they are cheaper retail and my exhaust guy has a contact there too.

The straight through option is interesting, but I'm sure that will be too loud for every day (though no doubt brilliant on a weekend toy)

Cheers Guys

Robert ,

Don't know where you are located - I am in the south east and had my Larini's fitted by Matt at Giallo , speedy service and very competitive price , they are louder than standard outside the vehicle but the important feature was they don't drone in the car.
They recently changed to new tail pipes which are slighly more oval - look great.
