the dads test driving a 360 next monday- how does it compare to a turbo?
obviously more frantic, noisy delivery as its a v8 with lower tourque than the turbo- but does all this make it FEEL faster than a turbo. obviously in a straight drag race the turbo would just win, but wev been to the ferrari garage in egham so many times over the years its inevitable one day hes going to buy one.
anyone done this change?

Turbo cars always feel faster that non. I bet he'll think the 360 a bit gutless, even though as you say, in outright performance they're around the same. Really a question of if he wants to stay one of the million Beetle anonymous, or have something vaguely interesting.obviously more frantic, noisy delivery as its a v8 with lower tourque than the turbo- but does all this make it FEEL faster than a turbo. obviously in a straight drag race the turbo would just win, but wev been to the ferrari garage in egham so many times over the years its inevitable one day hes going to buy one.

Had them at the same time as it happens. They're very hard to compare as they do things in totally different ways. The Turbo with the power upgrade def feels faster, no question, but is that the point of the exercise?
Depends when its going to be used, and for how many miles. If its his only car, then there is only really one choice. If its one of two, then there is also only one choice, just a different one....

its for a weekend car- only practical benefit of turbo would be occasional back seat usage. would the 575 be a better alternative?i would have thought the 360 would have less linear power delivery due to lower tourque and v8? turbo just pulls and pulls for 2000 revs, no drama but big g force and punch.

Tough one again - 360 and 575 are v different cars, though I preferred the former. I'd ignore the back seats for the most part, don''t remember ever using them (despite having two kids under 4 and therefore at about the only age that they'd fit!).
If its a weeekend only car, I'd strike the Turbo from the list. Brilliant but ultimately boring. So its down to the 2 Ferrari's.... Again, they do different things - the 360 is an occasion every time you get into it. The 575 is much more understated, too much so in some respects. The exhaust note (unless you modify it) is not worthy of the name. The V122 does, and I apologise to your father now, perhaps suit someone of his age better.... The good news is, there is no bad choice, all are great cars but for different reasons.

Chalk and cheese.
360 steers soooo much better (355 better still IMO). 911TT grips and goes like the clappers, but feels a tad inert (like the Gallardo) compared to the Prancing Horse.
If your Dad is thinking of a 360, he should perhaps drive a GT3 beforehand to give himself of a better benchmark.
550/575 are sweet but I'm sure your Dad would be considering these already and not be looking at a 360 if he were interested.

would have to agree with Delta Hedge here. had a new turbo 996 and changed it for the 360. turbo was faster but duller and only came alive at stupid speeds, plus the shape bored me after a little while. the 360 on the other hand is exciting at a more modest speed plus the shape(i love it) and the sound, and its a ferrari. perhaps thats why this is my third modena! If its a weeekend only car, I'd strike the Turbo from the list. its not a case of buying a new car and turbo being an option.... he already has the turbo and is tempted to change... i agree with you all- think the 360 although may be slower will be more entertaining, sense of occasion when driven will be better and it is a bloody ferrari of course.
