Now that just looks plain wrong. Having seen a quite famous Lamborghini Murcielago up close on numerous occasions that thing doesn't look at all right.

The front is a bit long but i wouldnt say its hideous. Could fool alot of people at first glance. At least it isnt a murcielago version of the countach replica that was posted on here a few months back.

Explain to me why is this any better than driving a chavved up Nova?

Both for people trying to pose and no interest in driving.

Indeed, bit like a Dax trying to pass itself of as a Lotus Seven.

Now. Two points. A the Dax isn't called a 'Caterham 7'. I didn't stick caterham badges on it hoping people would think it's a Caterham.

Secondly, that lambo is like putting cameron diaz's face on a fat bird.

The Dax is like putting Cameron Diaz's face on elle mc phersons body. The Dax was all about performance. If that lambo rep had a real lambo V12 and same suspension, interior, running gear etc then that would be different.

so the lambo diablo replica that was going around a while back, which actually had more bhp than an "original", with scratch designed suspension to make it go where pointed, would be prefectly acceptable?

Really do not understand the negativity towards enthusiasts that not only love cars, they go to the lengths of building there own. As a wise person once said to me, any idiot can hand over a large amount of cash for something, but it takes real ability to craft that item yourself.

If you dont have the cash, but love the looks, of something exotic, WTF shouldn't you create one without having a bunch of elitests harp on about how they could afford the real thing? Many of the replica's out there (including the ones I usually hear refered to as "looking nothing like the real thing" are actually moulded straight from an original, and use original glass and often many other parts to complete - meaning visually they are often (builders ability willing) IDENTICAL to the "real thing". After that, as long as you chose running gear wisely, it is not hard to end up with similar performance at a fraction of the cost - and often more importantly at a minute fraction of the running costs.

Myself, had I the time to do more than one there are a couple of replica's I would build - a GT40 and a Stratos. The majority of the GT40 kits are not only moulded from moulds taken from an original, but the man behind those moulds was involved in the original IIRC.

I think a lot of the elitests struggle with the belief that all suffer from their own failings of vanity - I dont want a GT40 or Stratos to "pretend" it's an original and to pose in. I adore the design history, look and emotive response these cars prevoke in me - to know I'd built it would only add to that feeling. A replica would allow me to feel that way every time I walk into the garage without the need to sell my house and wife to fund it. Doesn't that make me an enthusiast, which is what I thought all us PH'ers were, and the whole point of this site?
