Who has epxerience with the ferrari 360?

I'm after some experiences of running them as a daily driver. It'll be garaged over night, but when out & about do you have problems with vandalism or sticky finger prints all over it when you return? I'm leaning towards the F1 (for the flappy paddals & the fact it has an auto mode for heavy traffic) - The Gallardo Egear seems to eat clutches, is it the same for the 360?

Other than routine servicing, tyres, brakes etc do they actually cost much to run when compared with some of the luxo barges out there? I'm currently running an Audi S4 Avant.

I'm obviously going to loose practicality wise but are they difficult to live with, manouvre, stowage etc?

Also can anyone point me to some resouces for spotting any model revisions, face lifts, standard spec, options etc for each of the production years.

Cheers,
A

Don't delude yourself, as a daily motor, the 360 is shall we say, not ideal. It has no rear visibility at all, it has the footprint of a Range Rover and the carrying capacity of a Smart for 2 or whatever those sad little shyteboxes are called. It is about as maneouverable in city traffic as the Ark Royal and it gets about 2 mpg or so (actually I don't know what it gets, but it makes my other car, a 911 C2 cabrio, which gets 15mpg in town, look like a Prius).

So buy one and also buy a nice secondhand 5 series and use the 360 as intended-for parking outside nightclubs.. ah no I mean trackdays and redeye spur of the moment spins to Wales.

Rubbish I used to use a 360 spider everyday for driving to work in central London - it was great
Only reason I sold it was becuase my Lamborghini is even better

Regarding the origional question the F1 on the 360 is easy to use in heavy traffic (but don't use the auto mode because when you floor it to get into a gap it always has you in the wrong gear)

Storage space is quite good - I always use to fit the family shopping into it at Sainsburys

All in all its a great daily car,

but if I were you I'd spend that little bit more for a Gallardo or 575 which are much better cars

Agreed I have owned a 360 F1 for the last two years and I use it every day hail rain or shine, Even tried it in snow once. So far I have covered over 25K miles in that time.
I take my son to school, get the family shop, go to work, do track days, and travelled a bit in Europe.
It’s just the dogs.
It has only let me down once (last week as it happens) when the PIS (Point of Initial Selection) sensor went on the gearbox and I had no gears. Fixed for a few hundred quid. Also had to laugh as the PIS sensor talks to the PIS valve that is ultimately controlled by the PIS flaps on the back of the steering wheel on an F1!!!!!

As to running costs, well it ain't cheep around town it drinks fuel 10-12 MPG but on a long run you can get mid 20's
I do a clutch about every 10-15K miles and get it serviced regularly. Also you need to look after the cam belts if you are going to use it in anger.
A few things have gone wrong (not stopped the car from running) but most of these are due to the car being a 1999 model and if you get a 2002 and on most of these things are already sorted.

Don’t hesitate get one, and if you do put an aftermarket pipe on it.

Chris

ditto. mine ran like clockwork for 2 years & compared to my current car the front boot is huge.

I said "less than ideal", not impossible. I still think the 360 is less than ideal as an everyday car, which is why I don't use it as such.

Good info here guys.. All sounds pretty fair so far (except for the 360/gallardo fight which for me I guess will come down to the deal on the day - or a kidney )

Where can I find info on the updates & changes throught the models life? I notice someone mentioned get a 2002 model as some of the gremlins have been sorted.. tell me more!

My in formation is that the 1999 to 2002 cars had a few problems. Most of these I can verify as I have had them all.

Front wishbone ball joints. (need to replace or a fix in available)
Cam variator (factory recall) but not all have had this done
Oil pressure sensor

The biggest one is the gearbox software; on the pre 2002 cars this has some dubious qualities from time to time. My car will some times fail to engage the clutch on a downshift if I have sport selected and the revs are under 4000. This can be very interesting when you are cursing along and down shift just before a corner, you then free wheel in to the corner and if you are unlucky the clutch will reengage halfway round the corner.
It never happens at high RPM so its not a big drama just a bit unnerving.
I have heard that there are upgrades available but they are pricey and there are no guaranties.

That said I would end change my 1999 car for the extra cash required to go to a 2002, I just spent the difference on a Monaro (for the winter) got to keep some miles of the 360 as it now has 38K on the clock.

Hope that helps

Chris

Funny you should bring up this topic as I was just thinking the same thing. Currently got a Mondial t which im going to sell shortly and was originally thinking of a 456. Problem is the petrol cost would probably mean that I wont use it every, and then I got thinking of the 360 as a daily driver. I need to get myself a car in Dec/Jan anyway to use everyday and it was only when I got a Finance quote on a 360 that I thought F me! £15K deposit, £310 per month with baloon after 3 years. To me the most important thing is build quality and reliability, and I think the 360 is leaps ahead of a 355 on that front.

Like you i'd go for a F1 box, but i'd go for a non red car just to be a bit suttle as an everyday car. Oh and with the F1 boxes I was speaking to Verdi last week and he said F1 box upgrade can be made to pre-2002 cars for about £800 (i think). So you could go for a 1999 car and get the upgrade.

I’ve talked to Verdi in the past about a software upgrade but they cant offer any guarantees that it will solve my problem, and 800 quid is a lot to pay if it doesn’t work.
They do say that the gear change speeds are improved on the up shift though. So I might try it next year if work goes ok and I can find 800 quid to burn!!!

15K and £310pm, can I ask the value of the car you're interested in and the APR you've been quoted?

I think the quote was on a car valued at £50K @ 6.75%. I know thats the bottom of the market price but it was based on a few things.
1. Im not willing to spend too much. I'll only do it if im not gonna feel the payments.
2. Prices in the next 6 months will be dropping due to the time of year, plus more 430s on the road.
3. Im willing to wait for the right deal.
4.Probably go for non red, which is generally less desirable.
5. Will look at LHD.

I think if youre looking for something newer your payments will definately be higher.

Chris - I spoke to Verdi last week about the F1 upgrade and he indicated that it does work no problem. Maybe things have changed since you last spoke to them.

Interesting points on the F1 gearbox upgrade.

like you I'd prefer a non-red colour, blue with tan would be my choice.
