the 3200GT still doesn't like trackdays!

the smoke was the brake fluid boiling over (had the level at max, for track use best to have it nearer the min mark)

took off the rear bumper to repair it and low and behold there is a small hole in each back box so no doubt this explains the burnt bumper!
Pleased that you eventually found the cause. However, this is precisely what I suggested you check 2 months ago on this thread but you replied "No gas blowing, the exhaust was just very hot - the whole rear bumper was very hot actually.."
I repeat that the total thrashing of these cars by the original Italian test drivers during R&D is far beyond what you, I or anyone else on this Forum is capable of. This would certainly have found any inherrent probs with the design such as you or others have experienced.
hope this helps
hi nigelo - yep, you where right!
it was just very difficult to spot the leak as it is occuring where the pipes exiting the backbox are covered in a heatshield lagging which basically means you have to remove it to see the problem and to remove it i had to grind away the 2 welds and bend back the bracket that supports the tailpipes.
it will be good to get this sorted although i doubt i'll want to track it again really as it isn't really a track orientated car. i still need to find out why the drivers (right) side turbo hose is burning. as mentioned in the last thread by someone the fixed metal pipe must be too close to the exhaust manifold.
like any car, you can think it's fine on the road but then 10 minutes on a track will show up any faults and cause damage very quickly!
cheers

I have taken mine to Bruntigthorpe twice now and whilst I will admit that they are not the sportiest things in the world they can be great fun and don't seem to mind a bit of enthusiastic driving now and then. One of the plus points of these cars is that having done a session at Bruntingthope I then did a 1000 mile round trip to Frankfurt in total comfort with absolutely no mechanical or electrical problems ( 1000 miles = 3 tankfulls of fuel)
