I finaly bought one, and I can't get the smile off my face, just waiting for something to go wrong!!!!!

Anyway, I will post some pics in due course, but I have a couple of ovservation that I have made, can anyone with the same car help.

1. The car idles high, at 1,000rmp when warm, is this normal
2. The brakes work great, but the pedal does travel a long way before much happens
3. If you try and change gear and use the clutch aggressively, I get a clunk from the car in protest, sounds like the prop or diff area. I am not used to rear wheel drive cars, so is this just back lash.

The car comes with a 6 month warranty, so I am keen to get any potential problems sorted out using dealer money rather than my own.

Apart from that, shes great.....the car has been stood for about 2 months, and then I came along and piled 425 miles on her in 1 day, driving back from Newcastle to Chichester.

Hi and welcome from another 3200, and ex GTV owner!

Idle sounds OK, perhaps just a little high, but an easy adjustment I believe

Long pedal for braking might just be saying it wants a bleed. Mine has a little travel too, but as with your braking is powerful.

And yes if you are not smooth you can get a bit of driveline shunt - if it sounds very loud maybe worth getting it looked at.

425 miles - bet that came to a few quid in fuel!

Hope you enjoy the car, and look forward to hearing how it goes.
All the best!

Matthew,

Congratulations and welcome to the 'trident' fold.....

Hope you get miles and miles of pleasure (I'm sure you will)....

Bring it to the Beckton (east London) meet on Sunday (there will be at least 4 x 4200s and 1 x 3200)...

Finally, be careful with all that power in the wet....

Cheers,
John

Filled her up with £72 of Super at 93p/L and had a smidge left when I got back

77L of fuel / 425m / MPL = 5.52 miles per litre, MPG = 25.06....that's good yes?

You have to bare in mind that I was not used to the car, I had a great run and stayed at 75-80 all the way and stayed off the turbos (well, mostly).

Mine averages 15/16 mpg on a normal Jaunt, can just get 20mpg on a long motorway cruise at 80 - 100mph.

Honest, not lying! Maybe I did my calculations wrong, but I was treating the accelerator with feather like touch.

sounds good!

my weekly average is always 12.something which is a combination of traffic and a/b road blasts.

I have already found that with big engines, you dont really need any throttle on long runs if you keep it at a sensible speed. I kept it pretty constant all the way, not really planting the pedal or anything. I noticed from the handbook that it is quoting Urban @ 24 mpg, extra urban @ 10.7 mpg, but it does not say what the mpg is if you do constant 56mpg. This used to be the highest figure you could get.

My 3.2GTV would do about 220 per tank normal running, and could get as much as 400 per tank on a constant run with no rash pedal action. The GTV tank from memory is 70L

I agree, usual running around to and from work, plus a spirited sprint now and again, I am more like 14, not 24.

If the book quotes that 24mpg can be achieved, suppose it must be possible. Just stay off the turbos.

You lot all have lead boots by the sound of it, where as I am being very, very careful at the mo, just waiting for it to kick me off!

The "clunk" can be the result of a damaged U-Joint in the end of the Propeller shaft...

By the way,
Great Car!

More fuel figures, I am starting to free up my right foot a bit now.

£50 of Regular unleaded (it ran better on this than super, no cutting out) @86p/l = 58L

230 miles of traffic, B roads and a lot of Motorway.

230m/58L = 3.96m per L

3.96m/l x 4.54 = 18mpg

...the joys of taking it easy...it won't last!

Went to Carlisle the other week (approx 320 miles round trip) and, as I was ahead of schedule, went on a 60 / 70 mph 'go slow' and managed to get 24 mpg.

That's a record for me.

I am nto sure whether to start a new thread or not.

But I am seriously considering one of these cars, hence my interest in some of the other 3200GT threads.

The older threads regarding purchasing refer to less than 3 year old cars, which they are now not.

Is there any good second hard warranty worth purchasing for this car, is it worth it?

In one thread it was suggested to get the car inspected to check the warning lights that the car has had, can anyone recommend a garage that does these inspections?

Maserati Swindon are quoting me 120 pounds per hour labour rate where as Black & Whites in Cold ash, which is much closer to me quote 68.

Any advice in looking at these older cars?

I don't really want to go over 20k.

the other thing that I find strange is that currently there are two Assetto corsa's in autotrader and they are cheaper than the normal cars, any particular reason for this? are the AC version less desirable?
