Took one out today, and liked it. 2004, 5k on the clock, offered at 80k.

However, it was not a nice colour, so I need to look around a bit. anything to look out for?

It was what I would describe as burgundy. It still looks nice in Burgundy, but "nice" does not really cut it. I want to step outside every morning and be stunned, not think "That's nice".

Get the chassis number and ring a main dealer, they will tell you if it`s had all the upgrades

Sounds a fairly sensible price, even considering the colour. One of our clients was looking at a similar car a while back in London - can't be many in that colour, I wonder if it's the same one?

Yeah, can't complain on the price, but I prefer to spend more to get the car that I was dreaming of.

Which upgrades should an '04 car have had?

Dealer should be able to tell you what it has had, and should do anything that was undone FOC. Better to spend the extra to get the colour you want.

It was not at a main dealer. For a three year old one, I do not know if I want to spend the premium that they demand.

I prefer to find a good example, pay an expert to check it out, and keep the £5k difference towards the depreciation.

I seem to be unusual in this at work. Colleagues are lifting LP640s, 911 Turbos, and similar without blinking. I am just not ready to do it that way, though.

That's the one.

Yes, it was lovely, but lovely is not enough, I am afraid. I need it to match all expectations. Burgundy is "make do" for me.

Agreed, as you've said I thought "that's nice" rather than "I need that".

I'm currently toying with a G later this year or next... If I do, I'll seriously consider getting it resprayed in Pearly White... nothing comes close to that colour for me at the mo. lick

£5k - £8k job...?

Whilst I agree on the colour .... you can forget the resale on a resprayed Gallardo Tuan unless you get it done at somewhere like Lambo High Wycombe

I was thinking exactly the place. When I visited them a few months ago, someone mentioned to me how much they resprayed Paul Bailey's CGT for and I thought it was very reasonable...

Am thinking an official colour sprayed by an authorised service centre wouldn't hurt the resale per say, I'd just never get back the money...

Is it not worth asking about resale on burgandy? I know on a lot of top end four seaters, its reduces the price quite a bit.

PS Liked the photo though.

I don't think I would buy a resprayed car, unless it was at a significant discount over a car that came from the factory in that colour.

After all, there is always a chance that it was done to hide repairs. So, on top of the 6k cost of the spray, you are probably going to drop at least 5,000 to make it saleable againt the unmolested cars.

I am now going to ask a question that might merit howls of derision. This is to be my only car, and, each year, I make the trek North at Christmas, with a car full of presents for my family. This is simply not possible in the Gallardo. Does anyone make fittings for a roof box?

I assume you can get a ski rack for it, so there must be the ability to fit something up there.

If it has to stay at home for my big drive (and so if I have to drive up in something unpleasant), i takes away some of the point. It is hugely more esireable, to me, than a 911 Turbo, but the practicality matters.

laugh No, no one makes a roof box, or a ski rack! laugh

You're a bit early for an April Fool's gag so I assume you're serious!

The luggage capacity is rubbish, though. But that's a lousy reason to NOT buy a supercar. Trust me, you will not be looking for reasons to go for a drive if you really love driving.

As I occassionally say to the odd smartarse who states the bleedin' obvious, "I just have my luggage flown ahead". Shuts 'em right up.

No, it was a serious question. I saw a 911 Turbo today with roof bars on the way home, so things like this do exist for some supercars.

And the whole point with me buying it, if I do, is that I want to use it for every trip. I doubt that I will have the time, or the inclination, to arrange shipping for my luggage when I go to see the family. I do not drive much in the week (I live in central London), so it is these trips to see family when i get to really use it. Then I have the roads of Northumberland awaiting.
