Gallardo Oil question?

I also think it's about 1.5 litres. I tend to keep the oil level mid way between those two marks - first to allow for expansion when the oil gets really hot, and second because as noted reading the oil level can be hard and I want to avoid at all costs overfilling.
To read the oil, I have been given varying advice, but I have settled on the following:
Read only when engine oil properly, fully warmed up
Find somewhere dead flat
Let the engine idle for 2 minutes at least
Turn off engine
Read oil level within a short period of time, and check two or three times to ensure consistent (I find reading the oil hard as the oil is clean and almost transparent against the metal dipstick)

The amount is correct at 1 - 1.5 litres between top and bottom.
But you must check it carefully, and along with the instructions above, you MUST rev the warm engine at around 2,500 rpm for 30 seconds before turning off and checking the oil.
Their should be an engine bay sticker, placed there at last service visit detailing this instruction.

As Andy and Alan say, it's about 1.5 litres. The Gallardo's engine is dry sumped, so long as SOME oil is showing on the dipstick you have nothing to worry about. And even if there isn't any showing that could change once you've followed the correct procedure.
Don't be tempted to overfill jsut to be on the safe side. Unlike a wetsumped engine you won't blow out any oil seals, but you will cover the engine bay and underside of your car with oil none the less. It'll get pushed out of the overflow and make a right bloody mess.
Generally Gallardos are very oil tight and don't consume much oil. The handbook quotes up to a litre every 600 miles but a litre every 4000 miles is more typical.
Daft as it may sound, I'd actually advise you get your dealer to check it for you and top it up if necessary. On the Spyder it really isn't worth the hassle of doing it yourself. And you could pick up a nice sparkly "Automobili Lamborghini" T shirt for Jaqueline while you're at it. Chrissie has one in pink. Looks lovely.

I don't know if its all the city driving I do, but I've had to put in ~ 3 litres to date and I've only done 6,000 miles
My favourite T shirt is the LamboPower one, although my kids keep asking me "what exactly is the Bull doing to that donkey?"

Thank God they're too young to understand the answer!
The assumption about your consumption (ha!) is correct. The city driving will account for the use of a little more oil. Otherwise, sounds sweet as a nut to me.
How's the new house? You were in the process of moving when we spoke last?

In a rental place at the moment, Surrey is a bit quiet compared to London, new house building project is already 6 months late
But it’s got a big garage – new car should be here at the end of next month
