Over the last week I have been giving serious thought to changing my Tuscan for a 4200 Coupe. Had a look at Graypauls, Nottingham being my nearest dealer. They had very little in, but will let me know when something suitable comes in. Thought today that I would have a trip round to the nearest other dealers. Telephoned JCT600 Leeds at 9.00 to be told that the salesman was engaged, but would call me back. It's now 4.00 and no call.

I also spoke to Stratstone, Birmingham at the same time, enquiring about a specific car. Again their Maserati specialist was tied up, but would call me back. Not wanting to be stuck in all day, I called an hour later to be told that he was still tied up, that the car I was interested in had been sold, but the specialist would call me back with some alternatives. Again, up to press there has been no call back.

I have to admit I was expecting a better level of service.

Is this typical Maserati dealer mentality? Do the cars simply sell themselves? Are all dealers the same or are some more recommended than others?

Try Lancasters at Colchester, not close to you I admit but top level service top quality cars and when its service time they will come and collect from you in a covered lorry and deliver back to you all nice and shiney in a covered lorry at no extra cost.
Nice car BTW but should be looking for a 3200 IMO!

Lancasters seem to have only 2 in stock, both of which are out of my price range.

There doesn't seem to be that many out there at the moment.

Sad to hear you didn't get star treatment from GP - they were excellent when selling and servicing mine! Went past today and was sure they had a few in? Are they offering a good deal on the Tiv btw?

No problem with Graypaul. Went down in the week to have a look and was well looked after. It was just a pity that the showroom was full of Gransports. If I could afford one of those, I would have had a great choice. I do believe that they will come back to me when they have something suitable in stock. I shall just have to be patient. Risk is that if it takes some time, the weather will improve and I am more likely then to keep the Tiv.

I was offered about what I expected for the Tiv. If it's going to take some time to find the right car, I shall stick in the "for sales".

Don't wait for the dealer to phone you back, experience dictates they won't (and I've bought two masers!). Keep an eye on their on line stock list and keep phoning up, once every couple of weeks. That way either a car will be just in, or they will know of one being chopped in p/x that could end up with your name on it.

p.s. buy a spyder not a coupe

Egham Maranello (a long, long way away from you) also seems to have a nice big collection of Masers.

This behaviour isn't exclusive to Maserari dealers. Seven and a half years on, I'm still driving the first car I ever bought. If I had not received the same apathetic treatment over the years from numerous garages who'd promised to call me back I'd probably be on my fifth car by now. I'mso fed up of them not being interested in relieving me of my money that I've just given up. I don't actually need a new car, so f**k 'em!

Hi,

I made the same change 2 years ago from a Tuscan Red Rose to a 4200GT.

I used Stratstone in Little Aston and they were great. Their service department is better than their sales, but they are small and only have 1 sales guy.

Generally he is v.busy and to a certain degree you are right, they seem to do most business with people who actually visit, otherwise they get plagued with tyrekickers.

If you need any advice on the differences, just PM me.

I must say that when I considered a 3200 or 4200 last year Dick Lovett Cardiff were superb, even checking out the car's history for me.

Cheers,

Stepr1,

I know the 4200 will be a completely different proposition to the Tuscan. Were you happy with the change?

I know I will miss the rawness, but would welcome the comfort on day to day use.

Must be getting old.

A 3200 has the rawness and the comfort, and (fingers crossed) will start appreciating shortly.

Brandeego,

I did misss the raw acceleration and the feeling of 'wrestling the beast' with the Tuscan. But, this build quality, running costs and actual setup of the Tuscan are dreadful.

With the 4200 you get great build quality (much better than the 3200) and an engine that makes the Tuscan feel like a Russian Lawnmower. The 4200 engine is something you cannot truely describe. Worth the price on its own.

You are much more enclosed, protected in the Mazzer and I did two long trips in each car, the Mazzer wins hands down. But, you will miss the raw edge of the Tuscan.

Cheers,
Rich.

Marenello Egham currently have about 15 Massers in stock, however most of them are new or pre-rags (thay have 10 Gransports) as apparentley the 4200 is going out of production in May and they decided to take up a big advanced allocation to have cars to sell whilst the replacement Coupe comes on stream.

If you are in the market for a GS they have £7k off delivery miles 56 p;ate pre regs .... very nearly had me reaching for the cheque book
