How reliable are these cars??

What if anything should a buyer be looking at when sorcing one?

I hear the clutches are a problem, or has this been sorted.

Would a Gallardo owner be shelling out all the time to run the car or are they pretty bullet proof.

Thanks in advance

Easy to answer all your questions, I've covered 25,000 miles in 14 months on a single version 5 clutch. The only issue I've had (last week) was a blocked fuel injector, other than that, its never let me down. Although I expect I will be needing a new clutch at 30,000.

I've just had the nose re-sprayed which I planned to do about now, but after hitting a bucket on the motorway, which result in a new ventilation hole in the front bumper, I also had to buy a new bumper.

Due to the high mileage I use the Michelin tyres which last about 15K on the rears, and fronts are still OK. But the Pirelli do offer more grip. A new set of rears cost about £550. Servicing doesn't hold any hidden costs that I’ve come across, £1100 for minor, £2200 for major service. MPG, expect about 15 mpg

But you do need to be warned about a few things I feel obliged to inform you about:

1) Be prepared to make lots of new friends, form young lads shouting “sick” I didn’t know that now means cool, to little old ladies asking you were the shopping goes.
2) Your family for various reasons won’t see you often, due in part to the pleasure of going out for a quick drive in any weather, to the hours you will spend polishing you pride and joy, Zymol have a lot to answer for.
3) The realisation that you loose interest in looking at what cars are for sale because for the first time you are completely happy with your car and don’t want anything else.

Is there a warranty yet for cars that are about to run out

More importantly do people call them 'Gall-ardo' or 'Gay-ardo'? I know it's the latter but tend to use the former personally.

"guy-ardo" is how you say it, unless of course you want to tell people you drive a gay-ardo, you may get some odd looks though

Depends on which model year you are thinking about. A UK 05 car will still have warranty left, but very few cars were sold in 2005, I think 2006 was 185% increase in sales in the UK! For an 03/04 I'd buy from a main dealer for the peace of mind that they will back you up.

One very beneficial aspect of Lambo ownership by Audi is the lack of traditional Italian approach to warranty claims, replaced by an efficient reliable German warranty process, which from personal experience is very good. You only have to take Andy C as an example - a month left on his warranty and his engine was replaced without argument - now that’s good service.

I believe this was an issue which affected a small number of 04 cars. Lamborghini don’t mess around, if anything goes wrong with the engine, they don’t try to fix it, just send out a new one. I think it was just something to do with the piston rings. 05 onwards are fitted with different cylinder heads and rings. I’m sure Andy will be along at some point to expand on this.... Andy?

Although knowing Andy, the only man who as managed to track a G so hard he turned the callipers a gold colour from the heat, and the only man to run a G which spits 4 foot flames from the modified exhaust, he does track the car over the summer frequently! But he does insist on claiming that a manual is better than a egear, no hope for some.

Hi Guys,

I've done nearly 900 miles running in the new engine, so another 100 to go and I can open her up. There was nothing wrong with the old engine in terms of power or reliablity it was just using to much oil (up to 3ltrs in a 1000 miles at some points). Lambo Manch did some investigations and ended up getting me a new motor without query.
I replaced the clutch whilst the engine was out only because it was cheaper to do it. The old clutch (Rev C) had covered 12,000 miles and was only 1/2 worn so the clutch issue now is basically a non starter now. With the latest revision of clutch (Rev E) i would think 30,000 miles should be acheiveable no problem provided its driven correctly.Aside of that no real other issues just 15,000 miles of smiles!
I've got my first track session in a months time... Roll on March.

Andy.

The wheels are easily kerbed and the Satnav doesn't have an "idiot proof" function. (I can just sense Messrs Cummings and Jones leaping towards their keyboards to take the piss!)

Apart from that it's a strong little fella.

Purchase from a main dealer would give you piece of mind. Dion has a very good rep as an independent broker so have a word, by all means. Alan Robb, aka Ruttboy, knows a thing or two as well.

If you buy an earlier car just make sure the clutch has been replaced. the original clutch was the "A" clutch. Some, but not all, were weak. I'd beat a new clutch out of the seller if it'a still got the "A".

There was a "Buyer's Guide" featured in the November 2006 issue of EVO magazine. The technical side was written by an incredibly handsome chap (some say "Adonis-like" with so much hair... well it's frightening. Anyhoo, get a back issue and have a gander.

I can just feeeeeel the backlash! laugh
