Hi

Im new to the forum and have been looking for a gallardo for a while, im trying to decide between getting a 06 car or saving myself a bit of depreciation and therefore providing more budget for tyres track days and petrol by going for a 04 or early 05.

the question i have is regarding the exhaust. I loved the 06 noise, but have been told a standard pre SE gallardo is much quieter, therefore was looking at upgrade options. i tried the videos of tubisports and found it a bit too high pitched for my personal taste (maybe thats just the video?) but i like the gallardos "drums of satan" deep chested bark and therefore while i would like a nice F1 top-end i dont want to go too much that way, also i would like to beef up the idle and pre-3K full blow.

is this possible or am i complete numpty?

i dearly love the gallardo but everyone seems to expect lamborghinis to sound like offshore power boats and at least below 3K i found it a bit flat, but that said i don't want to end up with a nasty resonance boombox that makes you want to be sick which was my last experience of a aftermarket exhaust on a scoobaroo Sti.

or should i just stick with an 06?

De-cat and a tubi, thats the way the Gallardo was supposed to sound. Positively awesome at all revs.

What he said!

I've left my '05 standard on the grounds that I prefer to "walk quietly and carry a big stick" (stop sniggering at the back!). The standard '04 and '05 does indeed sound quiet, from inside the cabin, below 3500rpm.

Andy's car is the best example of what the Gallardo can sound like. "The entire grid of an F1 race" is about the best definition. It's not for the faint hearted though. Andy's neighbours hate him! laugh

If you can, try and hear a couple of systems fisrt hand (first ear then).

Good luck.

06 car came with sports exhaust as standard, plus +20bhp and quicker gear ratios. They have held their value well too. If you can afford the budget, go for the 06 (especially if you are doing track time) - it is, overall, a subtly better car.

Andy's Gallardo sounds amazing. I heard the car at the annual dinner in North Wales and the sound will not disappoint anyone.

Mike's car is subdued in comparison because he does what his Wife tells him laugh

Probably just hinting that when Crissy is in the car, he can't hear the exhaust note anyway, so what was the point of upgrading!!? (Sorry Crissy.)

I have just one thing to say on that subject. On a fast bike, you can't hear your passenger screaming. But it's bloody distracting in a car.

Warren. I know where you live. You'll keep! laugh
