Bloomberg have just announced that Lamborghini's pretax profits have quadrupled from 4.4 Million Euros in 2005 to 18.1 Million Euros in 2006.

Crikey!

They don't need me to buy a Superleggera, then.

March 1 (Bloomberg) -- Lamborghini SpA, whose sports cars are driven by actor Jamie Foxx and soccer star David Beckham, said 2006 pretax profit more than quadrupled as new models attracted customers.

Pretax profit in 2006 rose to a record 18.1 million euros ($24 million) from 4.4 million euros in 2005, the Italian super- luxury sports-car unit of Volkswagen AG said in a statement today. Sales gained 43 percent to 346.3 million euros.

Lamborghini's sales rose 30 percent last year to a record 2,087 sports cars. Division President Stephan Winkelmann has pushed to increase sales, boosting production to 13 cars daily last year from one car a day in 2000, and turn around the unit's finances. The Sant'Agata Bolognese, Italy-based carmaker returned to profit in 2004.

``We have a complete model range, which is the youngest we have ever had,'' Winkelmann said in an interview in Ingolstadt, Germany, yesterday. ``We are now a real car manufacturer.''

The division last year introduced two new models, the Gallardo Spyder and Murcielago Coupe LP 640. The carmaker sold 817 Spyders in 2006 and 318 Murcielago Coupes.

Winkelmann said in January that 2007 sales will rise at least 5 percent, helped by the new Murcielago LP640 Roadster. Lamborghini will bring the Murcielago Roadster, which has a U.S. sticker price of $350,000, to market in the first half of this year. The Murcielago Roadster is already sold out for 2007 and partially for 2008, Winkelmann said in January.

``For financial year 2007, the company plans to continue to generate solid and sustainable growth in sales and profits,'' Lamborghini said today.

The luxury carmaker is also focusing this year on adding 10 to 12 dealers to its current network of 100. Lamborghini will open about half of those dealerships in the U.S., where the carmaker has more than 40 percent of sales. The carmaker sells more than 300 cars in California alone, making it Lamborghini's single-largest market.
