Maser unveils the new GranTurismo

New car caught by PH uber-snapper

Maserati revealed its new GT, the GranTurismo, at the Geneva motor show this week and the first pictures have arrived, courtesy of PistonHeads snapper Sebastian Geisler.

Described as "a high-performance GT", the two-door GranTurismo uses the company's 4.2 litre 405bhp V8 and a front/rear weight distribution of 49 per cent / 51 per cent.

It'll be fitted with a paddle-actuated automatic gearbox -- the same that just adopted for the Quattroporte -- and an adaptive control system that adjusts gear-shifting mode to the driving style and the driving conditions.

It's a full four-seater, it'll replace the Coupé and you can expect to be able to buy one in September.

Maserati made its first GT was in 1947 when the Trident Company unveiled the Pinin Farina-designed GT, the A6, at the Geneva show. 58 were built.

Even looks good in white!

But what is it Maser and their gearboxes? First they fit the QP with a crappy manual before finally gettoing round to putting an auto in it; now, the fit the sports coupe with an auto with no manual! Are they on something?

The only thing I don't like about Maseratis is the "open mouthed fish" look of the front grille. Other than that, they're great.

And the side profile looks like it's slept with an RX8

Bet it'll look good in the flesh though..

have to agree with RobM3..... it looks like a facelift mazda rx8..... not a bad thing (unless of course you are a stylish and carismatic company like maserati)

Yep... RX8 was my first thought too...

Perhaps white isn't the best colour or something, not sure if I'd want to spend my hard earned on a Maser that looks like a Mazda!

Front - a little like a BMW Z4 on steroids!

How much - £70K or 110K?

Although I miss the boomerang lights of the 3200GT, this looks great. The one thing that really irritates me is the auto 'box. In the Quattroporte it adds massive weight. I wonder how heavy the GT will be...

Check out the early Pininfarina sketches in "Gallery". It looks meaner & lower as a concept. Shame they didn't stick to that look IMO as it became a bit more "pumped".

More or less the same engine is available in the Alfa 8C, except it's increased to 4.7L & 470bhp, and it wouldn't be at all suprising if that finds it's way into the Maserati models later down the line.

i think the front looks like a cross between the QP and an S2000, with the side profile of n RX-8.

That said, it is gorgeous! i love it, in black please!
