Internal finish on 3200 engine bay

I'm having a bodyshop tend to the rust that's appearing on the landing panel (the area around the bonnet catch hole that runs left to right between the wings).

On my car the landing panel has a rough black finish (the sort that if you wipe it with a cloth the fibres get caught). The bodyshop is not sure whether this finish has been applied in the past or if it's the original factory finish.


What's your's like, is it this rough finish or a smooth matt or smooth shiny finish or something else?

They are all finished in a grainy black finish, i have seen a few where people have painted this part of the car and i have to be honest and think it looks odd.

Everyone is entitled to persoanlize their car but i can think of much better ideas.
