Hi Chaps

Very close to biting the bullet and going for a Gallardo and owning my dream car

Was thinking of going to go for an MY06 used for ballpark £115k, but am trying to decide (after falling in love with it in Geneva) whether to borrow that extra wedge and stretch to a new Superleggera. Just wondered in your guys opinions whether you think it will hold value better than an MY06 or even MY07.

Thanks in advance for any opinions.

been thinking about this myself and the answer i'm coming up with is prob NOT because;

1]the SL isn't a limited edition , tho paint colour is
2]the base price is around £140k so does extra kit on SL equal the diff in price over SE and would you spec it ?
3]looking at residual as a % of MRSP of Challenge Stradale vs 360m and spider , CS selling prices are slightly worse than the 2 non limited editions. Remember only 1200 Cs were made out of total 16k production run.

I could be totally wrong tho and will watch prices keenly as i'm very interested in SL myself cool

Yep i'm in this camp too as have v.early option

Problems

A) Budget 160-165k for car
B) They don't do them in white
C) It's not a limited edition, they will make as many as they can sell as apposed to the Gallardo SE (250 units) which undoubtably helped the residuals (they are approaching 2 years old and are selling for list -10/20 , that's bloody good)
D) In typical Lambo fashion they'll probably start doing them in white the minute I order one

and most importantly

E) When the 430 Pista is annouced , if it's really special that'll really hurt the Superlegerra

A representative's view a LL said for getting an early car, short to mid term you'd be ok - but consider the all new variants coming out in 2008/9

All said it's still fappin gorgeous and it's only money right? and who wants to be the richest man in the graveyard (having not experienced lambo hypercar ownership )

Easy to get the seats and steering wheel changed. Reiter do quite a few cool mods:

Good advice!

430 CS will smash the SL me thinks.

To me, SL doesn't seem quite hardcore enough, neither track or a road car.

I wouldn't opt for an SL if you have depreciation concerns yikes, 06 Model makes much more sense.

Agreed 100% not hardcore enough, they should have at least ditched the four wheel drive and made it a bit more 'tail happy'!

But do you think the 430 LP will be any less...wasn't the list for an optioned CS around 150k?

On topic, if you're stretching yourself on finance and worrying about depreciation too much, I certainly wouldn't be going for the more expensive car.

None of these are going to be depreciation free. And even 10% off at this level is a good chunk of cash to be chucking away of you're concerned about it.

Thanks for all the feedback guys most appreciated, and it kind of echoes my thoughts, they just looked so bloody nice on the stand though!!

Have we had an official UK base price announced yet? And what would you need to add to it to hit the £165k you talk of if its approx £140k base?

I like the idea of the lower weight etc, and i plan to track it, i see Autocar have driven it now and the review is out next week, maybe i will hang on and see what they think....

Hadn't seen one in anything other than the dull grey before. It looks great in orange.

I think the orange will probably work best out of all the colours with all of the visible carbon.

FWIW I thought the SE worked best in yellow or orange too.

i agree; the 350 number was quoted in some mags as likely production figure but the run's unlimited if it sells well

The resale of all Gallardos will be affected later this year when the 08 facelift comes. I'm told by a reliable source close to the factory that we can expect more power (even more that the SL), updated interior with new guages (no Audi parts) and a steering wheel with switchable power modes (like the F430) and possibly slightly tweaked styling front and rear (although essentially the same look).

Tempting though the SL is, I intend to wait for the 08 to see if these predictions are true. I quite like the SL but it didn't have the same effect on me as the SE/06 did in terms of improving all the things that needed fixing on the original car. I like the lighter weight and CF but some details miss the mark for me (no exhaust tips, no door pockets, ugly stripe, aftermarket looking spoiler, STi copy wheels, better brakes still optional.)
