Ferrari factory tour & Fiorano fun!
Discussion
Does anyone have factory visit experiences to divulge? Would be very interested to hear of your experience and any tips on what to look out for; I've been to Maranello before but never 'on the inside' as it were. I'm lucky enough to have been invited to an event next week at the factory itself and we're getting a tour of the factory & a couple of hours of funtime @ Fiorano: frankly, I cant wait
Yes went about 4 years ago. Only did the factory though not Fiorrano.
Factory is good but the prodcution lines were smaller than I expected. They had 2 main lines, one for V8's and the other for V12's. There was also a smaller one for the Enzo's that they were building at the time.
Security is strict and you have to lock away your camera's and mobiles in lockers before you go in.
I could hardly understand the guide we had he was so Italian.
Best part was the last stage of the production line where there were loads of gleaming new 360 Spiders lined up waiting for the lucky test drivers to take them out on shakedown runs.
Went for lunch in the Cavallino restaurant after that and had a look in the Galleria and museum.

OK guy's, heres the deal:
I've been invited to go to a product launch with VERTU www.vertu.com/homepage.jsp; flew into Milan today and transferring to hotel in Maranello shortly to be wined dined courtesy of Vertu then onto tommorrow - the big day!
Starting wtih registration @ the factory for a tour @ 10:45 tommorrow, then a presentation of their new product which I know little about, other than it has a huge Ferrari resonance (Vertu are a Ferrari sponsor, hence the trip).
After the presentation and chat with the designers its off for lunch followed by transfers to Fiorano for a 2hours of track fun. Should be an awesome day!
I'll post pics (of what I'm allowed to!) as and when I get internet access

I'll let you know now! Just got back in from Fiorano.... not sure that having lunch immediately before jumping into VERTU's 430GT car and being pounded round the track at was the best bit of planning ever, but great fun
The 430GT has superb brakes, that I know!
I can bring a world exclusive actually, as these will be the first shots of VERTU's new device seen anywhere. Its a gorgeous piece, with lots of Ferrari detailing: Ferrari leather wraparound the top section, Ferrari badge embossed on the bezel nose, whilst on the rear back plate there is a scaled down Ferrari brake pedal. Its called the VERTU ASCENT FERRARI 1947 LIMITED EDITION, made to celebrate Ferrari's 60th anniversary:
Shocking pics, but they were snapped at the dinner table under ambient light!

I've posted a full 'behind the scenes' look at the whole event in GG, here's what I put:
Thought this may be of interest to some, I'd always wondered what goes on at a product launch. What I can say is its bl00dy good fun !
Brief outline:
Vertu sponsor a pair of Ferrari GT race cars and therefore have a good relationship with them, they have designed a new limited edition product to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Ferrari and the product was launched today @ Ferrari. All I can say about the product is that its beautiful, and the word 'quality' doesn't really cover everything about it!
So we flew into Milan yesterday to hook up with the ad agency before transferring to Maranello via a restaurant in the old town of Parma for a lovely meal and plenty of drink
Most of the people here are correspondants / journalists in the lifestyle market, but also motoring press guys too - and have come from all over the world.
So today I managed to get some pics of proceedings:
Arrived at my room to find a small gift pack from Vertu...
Leaving the hotel to head off for a Ferrari factory tour...
Just before getting off the bus for the factory tour...
In Ferrari reception...
Very desirable pice of plastic
Time to go!
No pics until we leave, as camera's are not allowed in the factory. The factories are fantastic, as you'd expect; I was struck by how spacious it felt and how clean everything was.
The famous Cavallino restaurant accross the road from the factory gates...
Can you tell its near Ferrari?
After the factory tour we were taken to Fiorano where the launch was taking place... they had some toys for us to look at too...
We were taken out for some laps in this weapon after lunch...
At the launch. Anyone recognize the french chap in the middle?
The designer, Frank Nuovo speaks....
The device
The engineer, Hutch Hutchison
Some poor pics of the device; taken on a few seconds on a dinner table!
They had a glorious 599GTB on display. First time I've seen one outside of a motorshow and looks fantastic. For me a much better effort aesthetically than the 430....
Some non-standard cars...
My Fiorano taxi
Then back to the hotel and off out for some dinner. Fly back tommorrow morning.
So thats a day on a press event, many thanks to Vertu www.vertu.com for inviting me along - brilliant, beautiful product just a bit out of my league $$$
