Sorry, I know there is better metal here, but I'm so chuffed how it has come out. I have to post it here AND the North West forum.

In readiness for the summer season, I thought I'd get a few things sorted out on the Jalpa. The first step was getting the paint work tidied up.
There was the fall-out from a previous owner having a bump and dozens of stone chips, especially on the rear wheel arches.
I'd spoken to the likes of ChipAways who told me that I needed a full re-spray. So I mailed a few detailers from this site, but only got the one response, from Jonny at Pure Detail.
He came and saw the car and thought it was in pretty good nick, a lot better than he was expecting when I’d him about ChipAway's response. Due to the number of some of the chips he suggested a friend of his, to do a little bit of spray work, as he has a body shop in Preston and he would sort out the remainder.
I took this as an opportunity to get a few other things sorted as well. Some cracks in the front spoiler, remove the crappy old car phone antenna from the rear 3/4s, a dent in under the rear valance, repair a rusting wheel arch lower, etc.
Based on all this work, they quoted a very reasonable price. When I recall I was considering taking the car to Italy and getting the factory to respray it, it was an fcensored gift.
The detail became a three stage job. Initial deswirl, 2nd stage and wax, and then once the paint has hardened a full wax.
Here are some pictures from the Initial Deswirl:

Of course, the deswirl was done at Jon's place, and it rained on the way home. So the following week the first thing to be done was to clean the car, then I'd asked him to underseal the wheel arches as well. Here are some pictures from the 2nd Stage work.

These are just a sample of some of the pictures, as I got a new toy, I can post more if anyone is interested.
The next work is to get the brake master cylinder sorted out then a few jobs on the interior and the final detail once the paint has gone off.
Oh and the final picture is of Jonny :

Nice pics, Simon.

If we must have cleavage shots can I start a petition for Abi's cleavage? Just a thought.

As you know, I'm a huge Lambo V8 fan. From the beautiful little Urraco to the much more butch Jalpa, these cars have lived in the shadow of their V12 brethren for too long IMO.

Forza Lamborghini!

Hi CraigW,
I cannot say that she (very female) has been totally reliable, but the problems are well documented and were bound to occur at some point. So far there have been three, one was the crappy 80s alarm, which got replaced, the second a blown seal on the clutch slave cylinder (a common problem) and now the seals have blown on the brake master cylinder. TBH I'd expect some seals to fail after soaking in brake fluid for 22 years.
Also, with me fixing them, I know they've been done and done right.
I'm no mechanic, but the car is really simple and basic. Any spanner monkey worth his salts should be able to do a service. Once place wanted to know where they plug the diagnostic computer in. Didn’t go back there.
So I use a local garage to do servicing, but I source all of the parts, so I know the price is acceptable and the parts are right. I work out from the handbook what needs to be done and write up a crib sheet for them. A little sad, I know.
For driving it is superb, the sound is amazing, and any problems are instantly forgiven when you get a bit of empty road.
You have to accept that she is a ‘80s Italian supercar; for all the good and the bad that that will mean. You have to work within her limits, I tried to drive like I do in the Elise and it just doesn’t work. Also unless you have deep pockets and go to a main dealer, you need to do a little work sourcing parts and figuring out servicing tasks.
I’d do it again in a heartbeat.

Great pics - They reminded me of reading 'Fast Lane' magazine as a kid and thinking I might be able to afford a Jalpa when I was grown up. A proper Lamborghini. bow
