4200 cambiocorsa

Is this a semi auto or can it be used in full auto mode?.
Can't seem to get a straight answer. Any one own one of these and how do rate it.

Test drove one once, and yes you can just drive it as a standard auto. I'm looking at buying one too, I was intending to wait until the Autumn to get a Gransport, but my back has decided to slip a disc so may have to get one sooner (pressing clutch a tad painful)

im not an expert on the CC box but i think its a development of what was on the 355 f1. Yes there is an auto mode, but you really wont want to use it. It tends to be not very clutch friendly or that smooth. Driving an 355 f1 box requires some attention unlike an auto, when i test drove a maser spyder cc it seemed much the same. They dont take long to get used to, a day or so and you will be fine so dont be put off by an initial test drive. Bear in mind the CC box is a manual with paddle shift not an auto box with paddles as seen on mercs or aston db9 for example, so needs to be driven like its a manual

Suggest you use the search on this site to see what has been discussed about the merits of the CambioCorsa box....

As a starter for 10, the CC is a 6 speed gearbox with a MANUAL clutch, you change gear using the 'flappy' paddles on the steering column, there is no clutch pedal. Whilst there is an automatic 'setting' where the car's electronics decides when to change gear, it is not in any way to be confused with a traditional automatic box.

None of the owners (myself included) use the Auto setting, using the paddles is far too much fun.

Would I recommend one, definitely. 20,000 miles and 18 months later......

Cheers Guys its just that the missus will also drive the car and she likes autos so don't know if its up to the job.
I really have the hots for one of these but don't know how it will satnd up to the mileage I put on cars for work.
The angle for the missus was that she could swop in her slk and use the Masser part of the time to keep the milage down and I change my xjr for something more pracital. Which I could then use mostly for work until I fancied a good thrash on some good roads going to appointments, when of course i would take the cc.

I think you may be backing a loser here if you think your wife will like the 4200. The Auto mode in the 4200 Cambiocorsa is not that good and is hard work, whilst the 7 speed Auto in the SLK is by comparison excellent and incredibly easy to drive. Using the paddles to control the shifts in the 4200 is great fun, but it does take a lttle time to feel comfortable with this system. If your wife will use the Maser "very" occasionally you might get away with it. Great car all the same I can't recommend it enough, but the gearbox is an acquired taste.
