Mike360 - I use a 3G card in my laptop. Works great, though rates on the continent are expensive and even more in more unusual places like Finland and Russia. Also, recommend you get a laptop charger that works off the cigarette lighter socket as it is very annoying when you're trying to look something up on route and the whole thing dies...

Wheres the cheapest place to buy these?
Chas100, I have the card on Vodafone contract - think it's about 30 per month, with overseas minutes extra. Beauty of it is you can make Skype calls too and for long distance this works out in pence. Charger I bought from Dell online, very expensive though.

Just go into a mobile phone store. I use a Vodafone 3G card, costs about 50 a month unlimited. Most operators do them.
Or if you have a mobile phone, you could just use it as a bluetooth modem, from your laptop.
Final option, would be to fit a full PC into your car. Have a google for carputers.

Another vote for a 3G card here, I used mine to update www.teamcunning.co.uk our Staples 2 Naples rally website last year.
Mostly GPRS coverage on the road, apart from Switzerland where 3G was everywhere, but even in Northern Italy I had 3G at the hotels.
As mentioned it's relatively pricy to use abroad though, I used 25Mb of data transfer in Europe and my bill was £120 or so

Three work in a slightly strange way when it comes to data transfer, so depending on how much you use the card abroad it could work out substantially cheaper than the prices I originally quoted.
If you get the card on the web and office 1GB tariff, the card is free and then for £45 per month you get 1GB of downloads included, up to 1/3rd of which can be roaming.
you'll need to check if this specifically includes European roaming, as their T's & C's don't say.
