Dear all,

I have a Maserati 3200 with no red key (unaware on purchase as to their existence)

When down to 1 working key I was quoted £3000 for the full replacement set locks barrels…

However to get around the problem I have had a company take the transponder out of the key and stick it to the control unit. A remote top spec alarm has been added and now both keys work again.

Took a day and cost £400 but a solution if you are in the same position.
2 keys and a more secure vehicle.

When your transponder loses sync with the immobiliser, what do you do then? As for suggesting £400 has bought you better security than the OEM equipment, sorry but that's complete cobblers. You have defeated the immobiliser for starters and unless your Inurance Company has been notified of your bodged mods, you have invalidated the theft cover.

The original Digitek immob / alarm has integrated horizontal and vertical motion sensors together with ultrasonic sensors + the usual trip switches. Because the immob ECU / red key pair automatically encodes the Engine ECU when newly fitted, both ECUs require replacement when fitting a new red key. That's what costs the money not the keys and lock tumblers. Furthermore, if you have the security card (showing electronic and mechanical codes) you don't need to change any barrels / tumblers as a new key set can be ordered to match what's already fitted.

Hope this helps
