3200 heater control unit?

Car is at main dealers having a service & mot at the mo. Before i sent it the atmosphere temp gauge had the "E" error sign come on briefly when starting. I asked dealers to check it out and advise prior to replacing. This error signal is for the heater control unit only and as I cant even remeber the last time I used the heater or aircon on it I wasn't overly fussed if not repaired. The dealer cleared the logged codes and all is fine for 2 or 3 days and then it comes back on. tested my unit in another car and sure enough it bought up the error light on that car also.
So we know for sure that the this is the faulty component but at £450.00 for something that I dont even use I told them not to bother replacing it.
Now, Im told this is a 30 second unplug and plug the new one in component so does anyone know if there is a Fiat or Alfa part that is compatable/identical? Where is this part located and what does it look like? I get the impression from talking to the mechanics its a relay looking type thingy?
I cant give the part number at the moment as I dont get the car back until next week.

Not sure really, Its only been described to me as a "heater control unit" I cant find anything on that list which has a similar name or apparent function.
I'll have a better idea when I get the car back this week but thanks for the link.
