Having trouble deciding on my next car (see thread in Porsche forum):

www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&t=393847

Starting to think seriously about an early Gallardo. However, after driving a 911 for two years without spending a penny (nothing, zip, nada) apart from insurance/tax/fuel, I'm obviously concerned about reliability. Happy to spend £85k on a car and higher running costs but just can't justify it without a full warranty in case something goes bang big style.

Have heard the rumour that Lambo may offer an extended manufacturers warranty (Porsche its £895 a year for up to 9 years for full warranty) - any idea if this will happen? Would make the decision easy.

Anything else I should know about potential Gallardo ownership (anyone moved from a 911?) would be much appreciated.

Cheers - Erik

Manufacturers warranty is 3 years on UK cars, 2 years on imports.

Further than that and I'd be asking one of the dealers as I don't honestly know.

hi eric, i did start a discussion on this a few days ago but unfortunately no-one semmed to be able to help. As far as i am aware there is no additional warranty that you can buy that will cover a big problem on a lambo over the warranty period. You can get extended warrantys for the cars but they will not cover anything over say 4-5k. I spoke to lambo london and they told me they would offer an extended warranty if the car was bought from them but when i asked if a big problem occured like say the engine exploding they told me they would not cover something like that so not really wrth it. I did ask on my thread that the only way i can think that you could cover a problem on the car of a huge proportion was if your actual car insurance would cover something going wrong on the car this big.

Does your car insurance cover you on a mechanical or technical fault like this (ie the engine exploding or something as bad) ?

insurance bods help required please

Actually.....
Soovy's quite right, it wont. Unless you happen to crash it as a result of, in which case I suspect its case by case, but my sisters insurance paid out when the front suspension collapsed on her ropey old Jag, causing a small meeting with a hedge. I suspect the bottom end going, and you pushing it into a lamppost at 2mph might be frowned on though
