I am thinking about buy one or the other, just wondered a few things:
1. Is the build quality better on the 4200 over the 3200?
2. Is the 4200 much faster? Is it a better drive etc.
3. What things are there to look out for when buying one?

Thanks in advance.

Pretty broad question!
It is generally accepted that the build quality is better on a 42 but that is not to say that build quality on a 32 is bad. Both had the benefit of Ferrari looking over them. Ive had my 32 for several years now and have had no real issues, not rust, no major mechanicals, just plenty of grin inducing miles.
When it comes too driving the two, the 32 is a much more raw experience, with very quick throttle response and turbos, more than one owner has been caught out, especially in the damp with sport on and traction off. be warned.
both are very quick with similar bhp but a 32 has more torque.
It will largley depend on what you want to do with it. If it is every day town traffic you will be enduring then a 42 is probably better for you. If it is blasting at weekends then go for a 32.
I have driven both and prefer my 32 for my style and useage, it is a lot of bang for the bucks plus you get those tail lights (MMMmmmmmmmmm) and bonnet vents which the 42 doesn't have.
Whichever you choose you will not regret it if you take your time and pick the right one.
All the normal rules apply to checking them out but I would say without full main dealer history and the all important red key then walk away. A neglected/abused specimen of either will cost a small fortune to put right.
good luck and enjoy!

definitely drive both, they are different animals. 3200 is more of a beast i think and feels quicker. 4200 needs to be revved hard, 3200 has oodles of mid curve turbo whoosh

Thanks Guys. I'll start looking driving a few.

Any info on maintenance costs? Compared to Porsches, I expect them to to about the same.

No idea about Porsche costs, but when I was researching buying mine, someone on here reckoned that a visit (any visit !! to a main dealer would never cost you less than a grand.
I have to say he's been wrong, but only by a couple of quid.

Service costs are not too bad. Just had a non belt annual service on mine which included:-

Service.
MOT.
Recode 2 x black keys to car. (let the batteries run out on both and pressed the button to often with a flat key battery!)
Replace fuel injection electrical rubbers.
Repaint inlet manifold (in red crackle opposed to standard silver)
supply and fit battery conditioner.

all for £823.00

Last year was a belt service and mot for £753.00

both with main dealer.

Major 50k service with belts and new front lens (lens cost £140 ) total cost £1800, new clutch £2000, the main dealer I use gives a 25% discount on labour for cars 5yrs and over so if using them you may find the costs for a 3200 are cheaper than a 4200. For what it's worth I do around 20k miles per year in my 3200 and wouldn't change it for the world.

A) There's lots of choice for ~£20k if you want a fun car...
B) .. you have to have £20k immediately available.

Not much else that will give you the bang for bucks and exclusivity that I can think of.
Not to mention italian design/style etc and nothing that will give the tail lights. (mind you £20k for a pair of tail lights is a bit steepsmile)
