Does anyone know how safe it is leaving a supercar parked in normal places (eg. supermarkets, outside shops, driveways)

Are they likley to get stolen, and if so what is the best method. I understand that Alarm systems are usually poor at stopping cars from being driven away.

The basis of the question is that i am trying to buy a Ferrari and the considerations are resting on insurance - and whether i actually need to be Fully Comprehensive.

If you are even considering insuring a Ferrari third party then you need your head testing!!!

I would be amazed if that was even an option. Surely Fully compy is the only way they would insure it?

Why do you insist on positing lots of separate threads about the same thing?

Some alarm manufacturers do devices where the vehicle will only run for a few seconds if you havent pressed a set combination of buttons on the alarm fob. Clifford have offered this for years but others may do so too.

Where in the UK are you ? I know of a very reliable place in High Wycombe that will happily offer any anvice you need on the matter.

Insurers would likely say that F/C is the only option.

And as stated, I'd be more worried about keying and hoof prints.

You take the keys to work for the car you've not bought yet?

is this a serious post? you can have a good enough job to buy a ferrari but cant work out what key'd means? and insurance on any car over £5000 is usually FC only, 100% a ferrari will be.
Surely its actually quite rare for a fezza to be stolen randomly, isnt it more likely to be a professional job wiht a trailer or something.

i am a little disappointed in that your discussion forum only seems to be for owners of supercars.

this site was recommened, the questions i asked were all legitmate and concerning the cause of insurance for the particular car - however you have either suggessted that this was a 'joke' thread or that i did not possess the finacial means with which to buy and run the car. indeed you may be correct.

The purchase of a supercar for an above-averaged paid employeed person is something of which is not an easy choice. in fact it is very difficult spending a portion of your wage on such a material, but then the very consideration of owning and drving such a car is an awe inspiring moment. and i'll say moment - for then the concerns of the investment are used to override any such instance.

However as it turns out - i can afford the purchase of a supercar (without finance), i am not sure about the running costs - which is what i am trying to find out. Trying to understand using experiance of other drivers the Theft concerns of the car is something that i believe is a prerequiste of a particular purchase. but in all honesty if the quality of replies has been accounted for.

Anyway - i'll let you geeks bash this thread - and anyone else who is in similar predicament....

Unless you're really young (and even then), the difference between third-party and comprehensive insurance shouldn't really be a concern if you're prepared to put £50,000 of your cash in to a car...

IMO of course.

Finance a percentage of the car then, and keep that cash for insurance and any above average servicing

Oh come on - you state you have £50k all-in and then spout on about TPF&T. What do you expect FFS?

If you really are working to a tight budget, why not buy a 348 and insure it full ycomp. As it happens, a good 355 would be yours for circa £40k private and this leaves you £10k in the fund for the next few services and fuly comprehensive insurance....or buy a 348 for £30k and have even more left over. Ferraris do atract a lot of attention, that's for sure, and not all that would be welcome...so would you be safe leaving it outside a shop?...that depends on where that shop is!

the ideal car is a 360, however previous posts have suggessted that i move forward towards a F355 - which seems to make sense. However any latter back than a F355 i find conflict in the design, in that it looks dated) - so its not something that I would be entirely ok with.

The concerns i have were centered around the usage of the car perhaps on a weekly basis - covering around 15/20k per year. So interms of parking and the number of miles you can see the concerns of leaving the thing in a carpark or such.
