I notice that on some of the other forums people are saying that this prototype is running a new Audi V10 bi-turbo with up to 600bhp

Now if they are going to bring this in with the MY09 cars where does that leave the SL?

My guess would be that the SL has been released mainly as a marketing exercise to beat the Ferrari F430 Light Pista (or whatever they eventually call it) to market and keep press interest alive in the brand. From what I was told by my dealer the SL will continue in production into next year so that would suggest that it will remain as the range topper until the revised cars shown testing in these photos featuring FSI technology make it to market. Lamborghini will be under legislative and marketing pressure to improve emissions and mpg whilst also raising the bhp of the car in line with the anticipated output of the F430's successor. With the R8 gaining a V10 engine next year as well as a high performance diesel option to cash in on the Le Mans win, the Gallardo will need more power to justify its price premium.
