What's the PH concensus on the "Diablo"?
Discussion
I've been looking for a while for a Murcialago, but I've stumbled across a Diablo that looks utterly stunning (IMO).
As such, it has truly caught my imagination. However, I don't know much about this particular make. I know the Murci has been built under German stewardship and the Diablo wasn't. So any pointers would be most helpful.

Absolutely stunning,in my opinion.
Though I utterly adore all Lamborghinis, there seems this special something about the Diablo which to me, makes it the most iconic supercar ever. Maybe its the slightly garish styling that lets everyone know what it is, or maybe its the noise, I dunno, but it's rocked my world since it came out..
Saw one in a car park in San Francisco the other day and I bloody nearly drove into someone!

This Diablo you've 'stumbled across' ... which one is it?
Whichever car it is, the chances are it's known within Lamborghini Club UK somehow, so get in touch with us via PistonHeads or via the Club's website (www.lamborghiniclubuk.com) or you can even call me/us if you want to... but not this evening, daytime is better!!
If it's a good 'un and you need some people to affirm that to be the case, join LCUK or if you need to know if it's potentially a bad 'un, again, join LCUK and find out more before you fling a load of cash down a gaping chasm of a money pit and live to regret it!
As for what people on PH think of Diablos in general - I'd suggest that you trawl deep in the site and find a few bad comments or skim a little bit and find hundreds of good ones - I think the words are 'life affirming' - when you buy a good Diablo you'll know what I mean!!

had mine 5 years with no problems, cars under audi management were 98ish onwards.
tbh i can't spot the quality differences until you get to the 6ltr car.
i havn't driven a murcie to compare the driving experience, but a good diablo is still fairly sought after with potential to retain it's value as well as anything in it's league.
come and join us on the dark side

Hi Steve.
The esteemed Mr Shell's opinion aside, the Diablo was a pretty well engineered tool.
Like all these things the later the model, generally, the better the result. The 5.7 has more of the traditional old school Lambo feel, particularly the rear-drivers. An SV is possibly the ultimate expression of this (or an SE30 if you can find one). The VT is a lot more useable though.
However (and I'll go out on a limb here), the 6.0 liter is an absolute peach. Audi did indeed take over about 12 months before these became available but their involvement was more about polishing off some of the rough edges than changing the Diablo's fundamental character. Ergonomics are much improved, as is ancillary equipment and overall build quality, but the Diablo was still a beast which needed a carefull hand.
Just don't be fooled by the relatively cheap cost of , say, a 10 years old car. The running costs are still potentially massive. This would have been a circa £150K car when it was built, so about £220K now. My motto is "If you couldn't afford the original list price, tread carefully when contemplating ownership of a used example".
There is no cheap route to supercar ownership. Just a road strewn with the dead wallets of those who've tried!

Non-Lambo owners opinion, but I think the Diablo was the last Lamborghini to look like a true, mad, Supercar. The Murky and Gay-lardo look to me like poor design student's concept go-carts with next to no real presence. Sorry!
:chokes on cornflakes: WHAT?! Lol! I hope you never need a lift!!!Naa only playing so what cars do you think do look good?

I have a friend who Im sure felt the same way but never fully said that to me (as I love the new models as much as the old ones). I tried to explain to him how incredible they were, and the road presence was just crazy...he still didn't get it.When he was driving out of London the other day, he happened to be behind a Gallardo...
Next time he saw me...changed point of view.
I've spent a fair few hours in Gallardo's and I love them to bits, they have a shed load of character. Im still waiting to hitch a ride in a Murci but Im sure its just the same in a V12 way.
Currently on my second Diablo, a 6.0. As has been said here the build and finish is much improved over the earlier cars. For me the Diablo is one of the Lamborghini legends. The looks and road presence are incredible.
I am also not a fan of the newer cars. The Murci looks too 'fat' to me although I'm sure its the 'better' car from an engineering/ driveability point of view. Lambos for me have always been about looks and rarity and luckily the Diablo ticks both boxes.

I'll have to add that i think the Diablo really is the king
For me it was always the most amazing lamborghini and somehow still in my eyes manages to overshadow the gallardo and murci though i have grown to like both in more recent times. Like most say the 6.0 really is a thing of beauty and still looks as good as new!

YHM.
I was a bit harsh in my previous post - truly sorry if it upset anyone!
Personal taste, but I just absolutely luurrvve the Diablo....
Oh, if anyone wants copy of the Art & Car Diablo book, still sealed - drop me a line.
The Murci and the Gallardo are no doubt great cars, but for me it's like comparing the Audi S2 with the Ur quattro. Perhaps the S2's quicker, easier to live with, better handling and more reliable, but just missing something, the visual impact perhaps? I'm not sure. How many self-confessed 'purists' prefer the Ferrari 355 to the 360? Maybe in that vein too...
Again, really sorry to criticise anyone's PAJ.

Are Diablo's the last of the scary lambo's?
You have not driven the LP 640 then ?.From a tall persons perspective, I have driven all models mentioned here and find the Murci the most comfortable. Had to take my shoes off in Tony_666's Diablo.
