I currently run a 996, but I'm thinking about a change.

At the top of my list are - GT3, 360 and Gransport.

What do you reckon it would cost to run a 360 compared to my 911?

My 911 is worth about £30k and I'd probably spend £60k on the 360. I'd do about 5k miles a year.

I've found a good local indie for servicing. Do Ferrari's cost a lot more to insure. What about brake pads/discs, clutches, exhausts?

And importantly, just how reliable are they?

Any views welcome

Definately more expensive to run- same to insure- not sure that they are any more unreliable though.

Discs and pads are comparable. A clutch is £1500+vat. Exhaust-call Kwikfit smile

I have a 360 and a 911 and I think, ignoring consumables, that the 360 costs about 50% more than the 911 in running costs. However, as I do about 8,000 miles per annum in the 911 and about 1500-2000 miles in the 360, the real cost ratio is probably about 2:1.

Here's an interesting article comparing the cost of a minor accident in a 996 and a 360... http://www.ferraris-online.com/Articles/SCM_200008...

The parts and labor hour quotes for a Porsche
are standardized throughout the US and
average $35 per hour. There are, however, no
standardized flat-rate labor hour manuals for
the Ferrari, and Ferrari specialist body shop
rates nationwide varied from $35 to $85 an
hour. In calls to authorized Ferrari dealers, parts
prices also varied considerably from dealer to
dealer, and most parts would have to be flown
from Italy for time-sensitive repairs, adding to
the cost. For the purposes of this article, I
have averaged Ferrari body shop labor at $55
an hour, and taken the average of the parts
prices I received.
eek At those prices, if you had a big accident in the UK, it'd be cheaper to ship your car to the states to be fixed than use a British dealer.

Interesting article. Any idea how old it is because the US labour rates quoted seem awfully cheap smile Or are the labour cost differences between the US and UK really that much?

Surely if you have an accident its covered by your insurance ??

Accident damage isn't a running cost !

Billy - which 996 do you have. I have a Turbo and am thinking of a 360, I would imagine the running costs of the 2 are not that much different, but 360 vs a 996C2 I would imagine the 360 costs quite a lot more to run.

The Publication is dated August 2000. Still sounds cheap though.

Thanks for your comments.

Bozeman,
It's a C2. I've had it 19 months and only done about 7k miles. It's a w/e toy, but gets driven like is should do. It has been very reliable, only replacing a battery (due to lack of use over the winter), coil pack and A/C condenser.

I love the car, but fancy a change and a bit more performance.

I've also been considering Gransports, F355's and 456 GT's. I know that they are all different cars, but can't make my mind up.

The 456's look great value.

Alternatively, I could stay with the 911 theme and go down the GT3 or TT route.

I've found a good local independent (Millbrooke) who are ex Graypaul guys, and their servicing costs are less than the half price of main dealers, which is what has got me thinking about Ferraris and Mazers.

The Millbrooke guys reckon that abovementioned cars are pretty reliable with the exception of the rose joint suspension on the 360, which apparently is easily broken and v expensive to fix. The roads in Sheffield are very poor, and even more so after these floods, so that puts me off.

Decisons!

Swapped my 360 for a gallardo, but also run a 997 C2S,my C2 cost £250 for its first service at 20k, 360 will need serviceing every year,1k or 20k miles at a cost of £1k to £3k,( if there are no problems)
new front ball joints cost me £850(graypaul)including full geometry check
if you want cheap go 997,if you enjoy driving and want an occasion every time you drive go 360(360 much better to drive than 355)
