UK Veyron crash update.

Driver receives low fine after Bug crash.

Remember that Veyron crash from a few months back? The driver, 39 year old Ajay Soni has finally had his day in court.

Ajay had popped over to his brothers house in Shepperton back in March to collect the joint owned car and went for a drive. Heading towards Chertsey in wet conditions, Mr Soni accelerated around a left hand bend up to 65 mph before realising he was carrying too much speed and applying the brakes. The car aquaplaned into the path of an oncoming Astra causing both cars to spin. All occupants avoided serious injury.

Mr Soni accepted that he was travelling too fast for the conditions and received a fine of £400 and was given nine penalty points.

The £830,000 Bugatti is back at the factory undergoing extensive repairs.

Rumours that he was given a courtesy Micra with 'Bugatti Crash Repairs' written along the side are unfounded.

9 points! yikes

Seems a bit harsh, however no details in the story of his previous driving history.

"Too fast for the conditions" - he should've been driving a knackered Toyota with 3 defective tyres, then he'd have got away with £180 fine and 6 points even after killing 4 people: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/5241798.stm

The uneven way justice is applied, it seems like Mr Soni's being punished for having a decent car.

Good job his fine wasn't means tested, like many of our European counterparts....

Very true...

How can it be fair when one court jails for 160mph and another court declares it not dangerous...?

Nope it's not fair is it? That is just the way this country seems to be going. £400 fine is never going to hurt someone that wealthy. He is effectively above the law...

I'd have given him 850 points!

A mate of mine once got five points and £400 fine for aquaplaning on a tight bend and hitting the wall on the other side of the road. An oncoming car stopped but the one behind that hit it and they claimed off my mate's insurance... which I could never quite understand. Surely the car at the back was driving too close if it hit the one that stopped for my mate. Okay, he initiated the chain of events, but surely the whole point of keeping your distance is in case of the unexpected, and as they clearly weren't keeping their distance when the unexpected happened their accident with the car that stopped should have been deemed their fault, not my mate's.

come on 400 squid to someone that buys a joint share of a car worth nearly a million is not going to cause hardship. OK 9 points is over the top for 65mph but I don't think it will cause a chap with such means further hardship, I'm sure he can afford to employ a driver if the need arose.

I'd love to know if the owners or the insurers are paying for the repair!

Do I detect a hint of green eyed monster!
Doesnt matter what car you own (or amount of talent)the guy had an accident at a speed that most people on here drive above.
Nobody on this forum was there,so how can you comment on his bad/good driving?
Just because he has money does not put him above the law, look at how many celebs get away with breaking the law.
Give the guy a break,he has just smashed up his pride and joy after working extremely hard to purchase it,which is no different to anyone else that goes and buys a car with their own hard earned cash!!

"Magistrates said the defective tyres "were not a contributory factor"."

God forbid that facts should get in the way of a nice spittle-flecked rant, eh?

I'm sure he doesn't care about the fine, but 9 points is harsh. 3 more and it's probably a 6 month ban.

Oh pls. I cant believen anybody thinks 9 pts is harsh! The judge declared he was driving too fast for the conditions, the lost control of his vehicle and caused another vehicle to do similar. Through that loss of control he also caused material damage to a 3rd party property. End of argument. Frankly I think he was bloody lucky to get away with £400 and 9 pts!

As for jealousy, if he had been in an F40 I might be jealous, a Veyron however doesnt exactly light my fire!

was he done for exceeding the speed limit or for hitting somebody else's car? If it had been two astras involved would the punishment have been the same and would everybody have the same reaction?
