High mileage 3200GT - am I mad to consider one?
Discussion
As above really!
I have always liked the 3200 GT (M) and am seriously thinking of getting one.
I have run TVRs and an AMG Merc, so am not averse to big bills/poor mpg, but this needs to be a daily driver and be reliable.
Would I be buying into a annoying world of very expensive repairs? Clutch/diff/Gearbox/turbos etc - are they built to last?
Thinking of something like a '99. 65k miles. Full maserati history. No warranty (private sale). There are a few around in the classifieds at the moment and on the autotrader. I wouldn't buy without an inspection either, but I just want to know what i'd be letting myself in for if I went ahed and followed the heart rather then the brain!
Thanks!

Speak to the chaps at Autoshield Maserati/Verdi. I ended up getting a 4200 over a 3200, preferred the n/a engine to turbo and the 4200's are a more sorted.
Having said that, it depends upon price, condition, s/h etc.
At the end of the day it's a Maserati - soooo much more street cred than a Merc/TVR. I still get excited seeing another on the road and I drive one every day.

The big service at 60K miles is the important one to check, if this has been done then my feeling is that a higher miler is probably a well sorted car and you will be happy - surely, if it was a bad car it would never have the mileage!!!
Full service history either dealer or specialist is a must as is the `Red key`. No red key - 4 to 5K bill so walk away!
On costs a good rule of thumb seems to be that with insurance, petrol, repairs etc. etc. you can reckon on the best part of a pound a mile to run.
Mine is used as a daily commute and has just ticked over 86K miles - I love it!

I fell in love with a Blu Netuno 2001 from a specialist with 26K on the clock for £28K in 2005.
After two years, and £8K keeping on the road at main dealers, I sold it for £18.5K.
Total loss in two years - £15.5K plus insurance etc.
At the time of purchase, it was between this and a 993....gutted!
Lucky (or no so in this case!)
