Hi Guys,

Does anyone know the dimensions/size of the Murcielago rear tyres? I dont have my owner manual to hand. Also where is the best place to get these monsters from? Quote from Lambo London of nearly £900 for the rear set looks like it should be VERY easy to beat....

Cheers
Adrian

Ade, there is a Toyo or Pirelli if I recal, and you can get the sizes from the Lambo London website technical part IIRC.

Unless they are gone to shreds already then I'd say wait til your on your last legs as my 3mm have last for ages and 3 track days suprisingly but I always liked Pirelli over the other and alwasy thought the last much longer.

blackcircles is a decent benchmark for them.

I see there is a set of another brand also on ebay but it's a US set but it might let you see the other brand, I think the are goodyears.

I quite fancy a set of semi-slicks for track days but not sure where ya get them.

Have you tried Pirrelli P-zero corsa's?

Pretty close to a slick but road legal, other than that, if you want full on slicks, try someone like Ears Motorsport www.ears.co.uk they can supply just about anything (at a cost!) and found some slicks to fit my 928 S4 previously.

If you do go down the route of slicks, bear in mind the added stress this causes to components smile

Cheers Pauli,

From the website they are 335/30 ZR 18.

I have around about 1-2mm right in the middle and more like 3-4mm nearer to the edges. The traction control system is cutting in earlier as the tyres wear further (done nearly 1000 miles so far I think) and Lambo London said this is usually due to the tyre wear. Is this something you have noticed with the traction control system? Or do you usually drive with it off?

Cheers
Ade

Thx Blot, I'll check them out. The biggest problem is what wheels for me at the moment as can't goto the -05 brake upgrade kit until I have a wheel big enough (Roadster wheels or other) to take the rotors which are 380mm on the front in the newer kits.

Why does slicks cos added stress?

I only take traction off for the track, but I find it comes on alot but that is usually if the tracking/alignment is out. Mines is pulling slightly to the left this week so I'll need to get mine done but it's not expesnive at about 150quid.

I did hear the traction does this to tyres but mine has been fine and is pretty even wear. I know that a type of Axle can cause wear from heavy starts not allowing the tyres to level off quick enough but it's usuall scrubbing on the inside as a result of this like what happens on older 911's.

I would think maybe checking the pressures if you have exessive wear in the middle as it could be the tyre is over inflated and with heat buildup of high speed. there is a tyre pressure for speed settings upto 230kmph I think and higher for over that of constanst speeds but I think you'd best check the manual for that info mate as I'd be just guessing, and my booklets are at home even though I have the car at work with me today.

Check the compound on the tyre you buy I'd say as you need it to be releavtively hard I'd have thought. I always changed bridgestones off any 911 I had and moved to Pirelli's as they are so much harder IMO on wear. On my 993 C4S I got 6k our of 2 rear bridgsetones and 15k rear and 32k front out a set of Pirelli's go figure that out!!

My understanding of it is the traction available from slicks is considerably greater than road tyres, allowing much faster cornering but also far later braking, add these factors together and the car is subjected to increased g forces which puts strain on bearings, steering components, brakes, etc etc.

Also bear in mind a lot of trackday organisers will not allow cars to run on slicks without a roll cage.

Great fun, but can be very costly, wore out the 928 rears in one day!

I don't think knockhill have a problem with road cars and slicks but I'll ask.

I think the fact that knockhill is a tight and hilly sircuit it probably get alot of stressing anyway but worth getting it checked over more often than not I guess.

Thx for the info.
