Whats the worst supercar replica you have ever seen?
Discussion
Once on autotrader I found an F40 "replica" (and I use the term replica very lightly) based near North Shields (North East) that was made of wood - even the rear spoiler looked like a plank of wood stuck to two other planks of wood (thats probably because it was) - I just wish I had pics of it - it was utterly dreadful - has anyone else seen the one i'm talking about? From what I can remember the seller was a car dealer asking 5-6k
Ahh, the Mclaren't F1.
IIRC at the time the owner came on here to defend it.

That Mclaren is hilarious... And what a good read! Surely if a replica can be good... this is the best - http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=848531&am...

this is the best F40
Isn't that a wee Suzuki GX thingy under all that kwappe? What a dreadful thing to do to a dear little car...this is the best F40

We had a chap who joined LCUK with a kit car 'Countach' who was very proud of his work, he's not a Member anymore and I can't imagine why (ahem)
As he lived close to my folks, and when visiting them, I called to see the chap one day to say hello and look at this car he was so proud of...
cut a dull story short:
The engine bay was full of air and a lost-in-the-depths grimy Rover V8 with valve covers with the Lamborghini script moulded in the metal. The engine cover was maniacally warped but was held shut with a chromed door bolt and padlock. The interior was utterly unlike the real thing but included about seven or eight Lamborghini shields stuck in a seemingly random manner but the steering wheel looked about the right 'pattern'.
The best thing of all was when he showed me how to open the doors with his special 'security' system... He had had fitted standard British Leyland '2 square' pattern door handles INSIDE the upper rear corner of both front wheel arches (he said he could live with getting grubby hands) and thought nobody would notice the way both doors described a 12 pint drunk's walk as they 'ascended' when veiwed from - er- any angle at all.
I asked him how much the car had cost him to build and he was delighted to tell me that he'd kept the cost under £35,000. This was 1996 and you could have had a scruffy late spec. (ie slower) Countach 400S for less with just a bit of haggling.
The car was blue and had a good paintjob at least but it was all I could do not to laugh out loud. Sad really, as the guy was clearly mad about the car and I hate putting people down and deflating someone's enthusiasm. The best I could say to him was that I hoped he'd carry on being as happy as he was with the car he'd made. He didn't renew his Membership of LCUK and my dad says he's never seen the car since although it was a regular local feature on the town's roads. Sad, poor chap.

I have to stand up for people who have replicas. A large number of people on here are lucky enough to own the car of their dreams, all of which were made by someone else. There must be an enormous amount of pleasre derived from driving a car down the street that you have screwed together yourself. I possess neither the technical ability nor the inclination to build a replica but I have a certain amount of admiration for those that do. I think to simply hold a replica up against the original is to miss the point somewhat. For the record I actually think that the Suzuki shows an excellent sense of humour whereas the TR7 shows an ubelievable amount of bad taste. As for the owner of the Mclaren, it has to look something like the original to be a replica..........
