Maser 3200 GT Check Engine Light
Discussion
Hi,
My mums maser 3200 gt on a 02 plate has a problem in which the check engine light keeps on lighting up. The problem is intermitent. Was fixed about 3000miles ago but has just started re-appearing.
Does anyone have any experience of this problem or any ideas of what the problem could be?
Regards
Joe

How long has she had the car and most importantly is she using the right starting procedure?
Ensure that none of the pedals are touched or the engine turned over until the car has run its full system checks before starting. Failure to do this will soot up the lamba sensors and they will give false readings lghting up the ECL. This light is illuminated when the check system finds any mis sensor readings (amongst other things)and if a serious fault is diagnosed will put the engine into limp mode. ie, limiting revs/power. If this is not happening it is likely that it is a sensor fault or sooted lamba's.
A spirited drive usually cleans the lamba sensors and when the car is then started again (with the correct procedure) the ECL will extinguish after the system checks have run their full diagnostics.
Whenever this light appears the system logs the fault on the onboard data log and will give a code when the log is "read" by a dealer with the correct scanner. This will point the dealer to any suspect parts which could be causing the defect.
The fact that it is intermitent points that either a sensor is playing up or the start procedure is not being followed.
Hope this helps!
