This topic has probably been done to death but what are the Maserati boys and girls doing once the Warranty runs out?

I have previously had Trident Discoveries, and have now been recommended Motorplan?

Anyone had any experience of Motorplan or claimed against it? Any other ones worth looking into?

(BTW I have a 2002 Spyder Canbiocorsa)

I had a Motorplan warranty last year but never claimed on it. I do remember it being incredibly vague though in respect of what it covered. I would only now buy a warranty for the first year of ownership (just in case it's a lemon) and then after that I would take my chances. I would hate to spend circa £1.5K on a warranty every year, only to find out that they don't cough up.

I don't think you get too many big ticket failures on Maseratis these days, most of the expensive bills I hear about are from people allowing the Stealerships to do the work.

My new Maser's only a year old so thank goodness I don't have to worry for a couple of years about this ... it is a really tough call whether to get one in the hope that it pays out if the worst happens, or conversely to save the money and take your chances.

I intend to see how mine goes over the next 12 months and then I will see if I renew the Trident warranty or think of something else.

Hi Joe,

How's the Spyder running??

As you may know, mine's a 2002 52 CC, and I've had a year's worth of trident warranty after the manufacturer's one ran out, and then I'm currently with Aon (apparantly a special case for me courtesy of Lancaster), it was £995 IIRC for a year. Had a number of issues sorted under the trident warranty, but so far, very little since having the Aon one (since March this year).

I know Ed (troesma) had a Warrantywise on his 2003 CC, but has moved onto a GS, so is still in warranty. I think he was fairly satisfied with them.

My personal view, for what its worth, is that I'll continue to have an extended warranty on the Maser. I do appreciate the argument about the improved reliability of the 4200 over earlier models, but things do go wrong, and on a Maser, parts are expensive and so can labour charges be. Now, I realise independents can be as good (and better) than the main dealers with much lower labour rates, and parts can be obtained through specialist suppliers like Eurospares etc, all of this can help keep the costs down should the worst happen, but even so, without a warranty, I'd feel nervous...

Then again (here I go arguing with myself) most of the warranty work mine has been in for has been fairly trivial, so the warranties have cost probably slighly more at present than the cost of them, but, what cost peace of mind..??

Last comment - if you do choose a warranty, carefully check out the cover and compare different warranties. The warranty price may be fairly important, however, I've seen massive differences in 'what's covered', and how much.. i.e. the 'maximum claim limit' either for individual claims or for the year, are capped at a low figure.
