Gallardo going through allot of Oil - Advice Required
Discussion
I posted a few weeks back about a friends Gallardo oil light coming on and wither it was standard after approx 4k miles of driving. Anyway, since topping it up with 1 litre of oil 200miles ago, the oil light has came back on and the exhaust seems to be spluttering slightly?
Do these signs show a big problem ahead? No error codes have appeared,No signs of oil on driveway, and the car seems to drive ok. The Oil used at the time was Castrol synthetic oil - I am aware that this is not the recommended oil but this is all that was available at the time from the local petrol station.
Also the car sits at an angle on the driveway so i am not sure if the oil reading may be out and too much oil has been added????

In 16500 miles my oil light has NEVER come on. My consumption is about a litre every 4500 miles.
Doug's Spyder is worse because of the city driving he does.
I'd take Joe's advice and check the oil on a flat surface.
Odds are there's faulty sensor but if all else fails take it to a dealer. Lamborghine customer care is very good in my experience.

The only time I've had the oil light come on was at Bruntingthorpe and this was when the level was half way down the dipstick (it'd used about 3ltrs in 600 miles). This was the start of the process that ended up with the motor being replaced with an 06 spec motor. I assume your car is a pre 05 model?
A couple of points to note though:
1) All Gallardo's will spit/splutter oil/smoke to some degree on start up (mine with the new engine still does it).
2) be very careful of what oil you use. I was using Mobil 1 0w-40 which is to thin of a visc which usually means it ends up getting burnt more than the correct 5w-40 spec oil. Lambo recommends using Agip oil only for some reason.
3) definately get it investigated by lambo to assess if there are any issues.
4) the early cars had a mod done to the dipstick as the level marks were incorrect. Mine has the two original holes plus a third which looks as though it has been drilled to the new correct level. it can be a bit confusing as to which mark to use if it hasn't beeen explained to you.
