Hi all,

I’m a new member to the forum but have been an avid reader for sometime.

I have a business idea and thought I’d get an informed opinion.
The idea centres on making performance cars more accessible and affordable for owners and non owning enthusiasts alike.

The idea is aimed at people for which supercar ownership is a relatively expensive proposition as well as those who would like to experience supercar ownership.

It works like this,

So, both categories of people sign up, we check them out with a various back ground check type things, credit, employment history, etc

They all get to view anonymous member profiles and can then decide whether they would want to enter into a share arrangement with a particular member.

If an arrangement is decided on, the car owner is then paid by the sharing member for say a six or twelve month period that the car is shared. Say five days a month share time or whatever.

The price would be of a magnitude enough to cover a significant proportion of maintenance in a year, (if not all) to the vehicles as well as being more competitive for the paying sharer than for the same amount of time through a supercar club.

As an additional service we could also create a safer environment and framework by operating similar background checks, ownership contracts, etc for likeminded people to get together and share a car purchase, whether there be 2 of them or 20 of them regardless.

The benefits offered are piece of mind through the background check system coupled with greater legal and financial security through an ownership contract, as a basis for the members to deal with each other.

I’d appreciate all views and comments on the basic concept.

Thanks,

Andy

I'm not sure if I am reading that right, but are you proposing that an existing Supercar owner makes their car available for timeshare?

If that's the case, I can't see it working too well. Despite whatever checks you are proposing to make on prospective sharers, I can't think of any of the guys I know who own eligible cars for this scheme would be happy to hand over the keys to their pride and joy.

My car cost me a lot of money, and as such I have got a vested interest in making sure that it is cared for and not mistreated. Would someone who does not have such a vested interest treat the car the same? Perhaps some would, but I'm sure there are a lot who wouldn't, which makes the risk too great.

Here's an example of what can happen when a non-owner is let loose with someone else's car. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wse-z4t8NQ4

Think I'll pass thankyou.

No, Lambochick is my other half. I occasionally posted using her login, but decided it was time to get my own. We use the same computer though, so I imagine the IP address will be the same. Speaking to Gruffy at Marham earlier in the year, he said this should be OK with the powers that be, as anyone who knows both of us can confirm that it's not one person trying to create multiple logins.

thanks for the replies guys, was just interested to hear peoples take on it,
It was sparked off my hearing stories that people get financed up and end up not really being able to keep the car, so sell it after a year or so, and there have been a number of peole asking how can they make money from their car, just a thought.....

but that costs £15k! FWIW I would be interested as a client in this, if it meant that for say £1k I could rent the car for 5 days. Trouble is, although I know I would treat the car like it was my own, does the average supercar owner need the £1k?

Well I was thinking more along the lines of a longer term arrangements say 6 months +? So it would be perhaps 5K? for five days a month.

I just wondered as your desire to drive one might perhaps cloud the real business potential, also without owning one I don't think you are truly able to understand what it would be like to lend it out. IMO that is.

I see your point but I care about my car as much as anybody (I know its a Skoda!) and as far as not owning a supercar specifically, thats why I posted on here, to try ad get the opinions of supercar owners, also I do not consider it as a route to driving any of the vehicles, I think that would be a mistake, chances are I would'nt even see the cars!
