bit of a pointless thread i suppose but i was just wondering if you could only have 1 car in your garage what would it be and why. just 1 though your dream car your favourite car of all time.

for me its the bugatti veyron because everybody thought it would be impossible to build and use a car with a 1000bhp and make it useable but they proved that it can be done.

imo its the most phenomenal achievement that any manufacturer has ever achieved. yes there are lots of companys that can give a car a 1000bhp but to make it comfortable, useable, reliable, and so effortless to use is just astonishing.

vw set out to make the ultimate speed machine and they did it.

i dont think we will ever see this by another manufacturer ever again!

what about you whats your favourite?

Yes, a veyron is a great car, superb engineering etc etc and I have seen a few in the flesh but for me it will have to be a McLaren F1. And with 3 seats I can take the entire family out in it seeing as this will be the only car in my garage smile

Not knocking you in any way mate, and the Veyron is a superb car...

But I feel its like they have used 'big bricks to build a big house'... Quad-Turbocharged 8L W16 to reach 250mph... Which by any comparison is decent engineering...

But the Konigsegg CCXR is where its at! 250 mph, 1018HP and runs on Bio-Ethanol (whatever thats good for!) all from half the engine (4.7L Twin Supercharged V8...)

Plus, the Konigsegg is just special in every way!

yes i agree with you there the koenigsegg is very special car in every way and it looks out of this world.

they get the power from half the engine but after some stick i think the engine would not take the hammer as the veyron would soak it up with ease.

just my opinion m8 but i do see were your coming from.

oh and did anybody catch fifth gear. even tiff was staggered great review on the bug it sent a tingle down my spine

Ferrari 250GT SWB.

I reckon I'd get more of a buzz driving that at 60mph than a Veyron at 253mph. And you have to drive it, rather than be driven by it.

Finally, when all the fuel finally runs out I'd stick it in my front room and stare at it - a thing of true beauty. The Veyron's just an appliance.

In a somewhat sterile, puritanical, "best not get people too flustered in the underpants" kind of way wink

Hi there,

I have been lucky enough to see up close and photograph some of the most beautiful cars in the world.

However every time I come back to the same one and in answer to your question the one car I would buy is......

Mercedes 300 SL Gullwing

I'm not a greedy person, and i am more than content with the fact that i am honoured to be chosen as the current benefactor of one of these iconic gems.

Very much into "retro cool" at the moment and as much as I respect the latest exotics, nothing come close to the Miura SV IMO. Just see myself chilling to the South of France, Open Road, Classical Music playing, beautiful Italian girl in the passage seat...perfection cool

Just need to convince my friend to sell me his one day-exacty the same as above....Oh and get some Classical Music and a Italian bird wink

in reverse order.......

3. Ferrari 360 spider....
2. 1959 Mercedes 300SL Convertible
1. Mclaren F1

I own number 3 and it's everything i expected and more.

i only hope the other two are the same.
the 300SL is the most beautiful car ever, and was way ahead of it's time.
a true engineering marvel in its day.

however the Mclaren is just the ultimate car,
uncompromised, stunning and unique.
every supercar built since it arrived has been trying to out do it.
the bugatti, koenigsegg and Zonda to name but 3 all want to take the title of best car in the world, but they never will. the Mclaren did it first and it still the most beautiful of it's peers. Designed 15 years before them it still stands head and shoulders above them all

From now until the day i own one it will be the inspiration that drives me forward.

Either a Muira or an F250 GTB ... but then would you want to drive those every day for fear of damaging them ...

I'll stick with my current itch that WILL be scratched one day - Testarossa 512TR. A true iconic supercar smile

Well in the garage I would have a people carrier with Girls Aloud all naked in it having a foam party. They would all have been without nookie for about twelve months and would be gagging for it ....

On the drive however i would have an F50 smile

........well you said it was a dream biggrinbiggrin

Easy.

Veyron.

Definitely.

If it's likely to be my only car I'd want something that will keep working and not need constant nannying. I like to drive my cars, not look at them. The Veyron strikes me as bombproof, and it is soooo beautifully built.

Getting a 1000hp out of a car is fairly straight forward. Getting it reliably and smoothly, and able to cope with traffic, day in day out, in all weathers, is spectacularly difficult. And the gearbox is built by Ricardo (we're not worthy).

If I had to pick a piece of more vintage engineering I'd head back to the House of the Raging Bull and plumb for a LP400, in yellow, natch. It might not have had the power, handling or brakes of later models but the unmolested lines are perfect. But then I'd need a colour matched FIAT Seicento for the days when the LP refused to start.

(and then there's the EB110... any EB110.... )
