Hi, i'am new here just wanted to ask a couple of questions and make a couple points.
Looking to buy a g next year(spring).Would you guys go for a manual or e-gear(why?).Buy one with warranty remaining or get one 5-10k cheaper and go for one with no warranty.
Just a bit worried on the clutch issue, there are so many of you g owners on here who go and get there cars serviced from the main dealers,(man, bham, lon)and spend thousands.I'am sure if you all got together and complained about the clutch issue something would get done(5k for a clutch only covered 5k miles IS CRAZY), and if not then i'am sure there must be a good indy out there who would love the business and appreciate it.

It's all down to preferance on manual / E-gear.

E-gears are waaaay more popular and probably command more money.

You know which you prefer and therefore buy whichever you like best.

Clutch issue has been dealt with, as for price it isn't that bad when compared to other similar manufactures check what it costs for a Porker 911.

Many people get excellent use out of theirs, just a minority of us who did get short use.

I belive if you want to use an independant Verdi in london is available.

Good luck

BTW: mine is a manual smile

Manual everytime.. its the gearbox of proper drivers.
As for the clutch issue, there is NOT an issue as far as i'm and probably many other G owners on here will testify. If you drive the car properly you'll not have an issue in getting 20-30,000 miles out of the latest rev clutch.
Aside of that the G is a great all round car. If the car has been looked after and serviced at the correct intervals I wouldn't have a problem buying a car out of warranty. After all 5 year murcies & older diablo's still sell well without warranty.

A piece of advice though have a look at as many cars as you can before deciding on buying one.

Andy.

Manual - all day long!

But like the guys say - it's all down to you!

Living and doing most driving in town I was worried about the manual - but it's so light - it's no big deal to use every single day.

I love the car it's the best purchase I've ever made!

Gearbox a personal choice - I went for a manual becuase an e gear just wasn't involving enough

Clutch issue sorted now with sintered clutch (but if you are going to be doing silly things like street racing fromm the lights and donuts in Tesco car park it isnt going to last but there again neither will one on a ferrari or a porsche !!!!

On warranties I got burnt once when I said it wasnt worth renewing so I would go for one (mine had one as only 20 months old ) but personally I would go for one. I have only had it 2 weeks so I can't really quantify anything else, save to say if you can afford the MY06 spec then go for that as there is quite a noticeable difference between that model adn the pre 06 models...IMHO

Off out for dinner in it now !!!! 600 miles in 2 weeks - tells its own story really....

No sorry........... e-gear versus manual is a no brainer! Manual every time. More direct drive - accepted e-gear drives through the box quicker but when I tried one I felt like I was changing gear with boxing gloves on! - just felt too antiseptic.

Needless to say.......... I run a manual.

Neil

5 months. 10,000 milesdrivingdrivingdriving Guess i must love it! (Bearing in mind it was off the road for a few weeks having the clutch done)
Mines a manual, didn't consider E gear myself. Like to change gear properly!! (Sorry E-gearersgetmecoat)
Verdi did my clutch. Brought the clutch myself, about £1,600ish, then paid Verdi cash for the labour. Did a great job, and you get the chance to Decat it for free!!

I've driven and trackday'ed a manual 550 Maranello which had the heaviest clutch in the world to operate in urban conditions but was absolutely perfect on track (due to much quicker gear changes). Also the gaitor, although deadly accurate, was like treacle when changing.

Is the manual Gallardo a similar urban workout or is it a more user friendly experience?

The G clutch isn't especially heavy, a little stiff when cold other than nooo problems.

it is great on a track to, you can shift a manual G extremely quickly

Have been lucky enought to drive both e gear and manual. Was all ready to slate e gear, but it was not as bad as i thought, once i had developed a technique to it. Manual is way more involving though. I thought the clutch was quite heavy, especially compared to porsches. I cringed every time i had to manoveur (sp?) the car or hill start....

Clutch revision's were done as a retrospective upgrade, generally on failure or a a used car deal. Manuals now have a Rev E, E-gear have rge sintered clutch. most of the early cars got a clutch upgrade 'gratis' under warranty, even though lambo never actually admitted there was a problem with the early clutches.
