I am in two minds...I am looking at about £35k for a mint 328, but in some ways I prefer the originality of the 308 and could buy a perfect one for about £30k. Has anyone owned both and could give an opinion? I am going to Nick Cartwrights at the weekend to look at both options....
Mint 308 for £30k....I would shop arround a bit - that sounds alot of money

With that question i ask....is a 355 a better car than a 348? Is a 360 a better car than a 355? Is a 430 a better car than a 360? Is a 612 a better car than a 456? Is a 599 a better car than a 575? Is an F40 better than a 288? Is a F50 better than the F40......er no bad example but ya get my drift
Nick Cartright is known for over pricing his cars dom com
There are many first class 328s out there to be had for less than 27 grand. The one i had was a first class example which i bought for 25 grand and sold for 24 grand.
Your preference is only in your eye only. You really must go for the car that grabs ya and says yes to you. Have a look at both cars, together if you can. One of them will jump out at ya.

But is a 328 a better car?
Yes.Is it a more desirable car? Not necessarily.
The 328 is more modern but still with those lovely retro curves. It is more powerful, it goes better, it handles slightly better, it looks (in my eyes) slightly better and cleaner from the outside but...
the 308 has all those lovely chrome and black toggle switches whereas the 328 has annonymous plastic Fiat switchgear.
It is a very close call.

Yes it is...but its a fibreglass concours car (at Nick Cartwrights). In fact its £32k...
Thats my problem, a mint 308 is not far off a 328 price. But is a 328 a better car?
I could have bought either. I chose a 308. here's why....the interior of a 328 is an example of '80s corporate FIAT - check out a Testarossa for another example. The interior of a 308 features those delicious toggle switches. I didn't like the front spoiler treatment on 328s - to my mind it blunted the front.Thats my problem, a mint 308 is not far off a 328 price. But is a 328 a better car?

But which is the better car? It has to be the 328 in terms of build quality and modern features.
I'm still waiting for 308s to rise in value off the back of the 246, but no sign of that yet, but the fibreglass cars are argued to have better investment potential....but prices have been stable for some time now.
My experience of the 308 is that it needs to be used regularly if one is to avoid those niggling problems that plague cars that have been used only infrequently. I paid the price for the 19 years of little use that my car had had...an apt analogy might be to compare it to "painting the Forth Bridge". But when it was right, oh was it right!

If it was me i'd take the 328.
Just as good looking and mkore useable.
If you were paying less say £25k then the 308 make's better sence but there both good.
I can't figure out how the latter is more useable than the former. Both have strong engines and gearboxes for instance. OK, so some 328s came with ABS, but it's not like you'd be using the car in bad weather as a matter of course, or pushing it to the extent that you'd trigger the ABS (or would you?).Just as good looking and mkore useable.

I'd concede that the newer the car the less likely it'd be to have rust lurking.
Height is not a problem...about 5'-10" the last time I checked.
Its a difficult decision. I've looked at both and definitely prefer the originality of the 308, but I'm still scratching my head. I'm down to 3 cars at the moment...the 308 GTB fibreglass concours car at £32k or one of two 10k mile 328s at £35k, one blue GTS, one red GTB...both non-ABS, not that this bothers me one bit.

How tall are you, I really struggled to get comfy in my 328 GTB (and i am 6ft 1)
Got a point there dude. I am six and my head bumped the roof if i went over a hump. And don't ya just hate that dam gear stick sticking into ya left leg when its in 5th

Hate to say it, but the 355 driver's right (sorry just kidding Charlie!).
It really is a case of one of the models grabbing you as being the right one
To ask which is "better" is to miss the point entirely. I drive a lowly 348 after all

........and you know i mean it MoFo!!
I invest some money in cars. As my brother in law is ferrari classic racingcar specialist in the Netherlands.
I bought a 275 gtb some 5 years ago ansd sold it 2 years ago. Bought a 512 BB (carb version}last year and now it is worth a lot more. Bought a 308 fiberglass few months ago and now they are paying more and more. Seems i got it right a few times.
Anyway to answer your question is very easy. Must say really very very easy. There are just a few fibreglass 308's and a lot of steel ones and a lot of 328. I do not see prices of steel 308's or 328 rising very soon. But 308 fibreglass ferrari's prices are rising already!!! Try buying one for under 30 000 pounds. Not that easy, certainly not for a nice one.
Try to buy an honest car not a "restored" one. Because a restoration is impossible for a 308 fibreglass because a full restoration will cost you much more then 30 000 pounds. So if the car has been so called restored they could not have done it very properly. So better buy an honest one. Not one which they tried to restore for 10 000 pounds or so. If you know what i mean. (my english is not my native language).
So now about driving. The fiberglass 308 is faster then all other models and has dry sump. So no need to buy a steel 308 or a 328.
So forget about the 328 and buy the fibreglass. I think it is cheap for 32000 pounds when it is an honest car. See some more fibreglass 308 if you can find one and buy the most original one and do not believe the being restored thing too much. Full restoration of a ferrari will cost a fortune. And not cheaper to restore a 308 then a 246 dino. Full restoration can cost 100 000 pounds easily. And i know this because i have been there.
So a fibreglass is the way to go.

I just read that someone said the 328 is the more powerfull car. Could be but it is certainly slower!!!!
Be aware that the fibreglass is much lighter and has dry sump. And the later cars were less powerfull due to emmision rules.
Thousands of steel 308's and 328's. Just a few hundred fibreglass 308.
Some have big front spoilers, this is not original try to get one with the small spoiler. Resina's have one exhaust pipe.
Watch gearshifting!!!Most of 308 and 328 have problems with synchromesh rings certainly second gear.

Morning, I have just recently bought a beautiful 328GTS from Nick and it is the best thing since sliced bread. He is slightly more expensive than others but you get what you pay for. I have had one or two little issues and Nick has been excellent at sorting them out. I would not hesitate to buy from him again and would recommend him all day long. I am new to Ferrari ownership and am having a great time.
