Hi guys

looking to buy a Gallardo before Xmas, 2004 max £80K, and have a few questions:
1. Manual or egear?
2. What colour to avoid?
3. Dealer or private?

I will be using the car as a daily commute, how will resale value take 12K miles per annum?
Finally, should I also be looking at the new 911 Turbo or R8?

YES, the only car you should be looking at is the R8.

Well what do you expect? The guy wants to do 12K miles per annum - in a Lambo????? You must be joking - but I bet there will be a few die hard Lambo owners who will disagree.

Not a diehard Lambo owner, but you can't argue with 20,000 miles per year, every mile I’ve enjoyed. Oh and before you ask how many clutches I've gone though, well 40K and still going strong. It all just depends on what you want. Sure parking is a little harder, and you give some thought to where you park your car, but other than that I don’t see why people think you can’t drive something like a Gallardo every day, why is it different to a R8 in that respect?

Regards
Simon

10K a year for the last two and a half years, no problem.

Andy.

1. Manual or egear? - Egear, fantastic and adds to drama
2. What colour to avoid? - Silver & Blue, seem to sell for less than other colours.
3. Dealer or private? - Official dealer only in my opinion as you will recieve a warranty.

They can be used everyday, i used a friends for the daily commute for a fortnight when i was carless for a while and it never skipped a beat. Only problem i have with adding mileage is not only will you lose a fortune come selling on time but the car starts to feel thrashy, knocking noises, bits do start to rattle and in some cases fall off with the older models.Dont get me wrong, the engine seems bomb-proof - its the rest of the car thats maybe been put together the way Italian cars have always been put-together.

Lamborghini birmingham has one at that kind of price and the guys there are helpfull in letting you actually take a car out on a test drive which most dealers dont seem to like doing. Great cars in my opinion and bare in mind new facelift is due so the prices may fall a bit further in the near future and winter is always a good time if you are a buyer.

Main dealers use AA for warranty,so doesn`t matter if private or main dealer,

I wish people wouldn't say things like this. It means nothing! If egear adds to drama then iPods adds to fishing? Journo bollox!

Sorry, wanted to get that off my chest.

Back on thread I'd agree the egear system is fine unless a good number of your miles are stuck in traffic, then it just gets annoying.

Agreed, i bought mine privately for what was around £14k under main dealer sticker price. Now i know this is of course negotiable, but from my experiance at the time, not excessively so. If. like me, you can find a good one privately, then you can be looking at a very good deal. The £10k or so i saved could have been spent in part on a warranty, or kept in reserve in case anything goes wrong. I know it can cost a lot more than that if you are very unlucky, but a warranty is only insurance.. the actauries know what they are doing and the cost of the warranty is above the average yearly cost of things going wrong.

I would have manual over e-gear, but that's a very personal choice. Silver and red are not popular for resale.

My final piece of advice would be to ignore ufoufo... by his own admission he has only briefly driven a Gallardo and never driven an R8 ... not exactly well qualified to comment on the merits of one over the other. Look at his previous potss... a man who knows the cost of everything and the value of nothing.

Just press A in heavy traffic!

Thanks to everyone, very interesting comments. With regards to colour there does seem to be a few blue and silver cars for sale, but I think the red ones look very striking and unusual. I dont mind the egear but people say that it destroys clutches very quickly and expensively. Interesting suggestion about the R8. Thanks again.

Yes, the R8 is what you want - Totally ignore Jules360 coz he just wont admit the the R8 is bargain alternative to his fast depreciating Gallardo. The R8 is even faster round the track than a G, and costs considerably less.

LOL you are a funny character, isn't carrying the R8 torch all on your lonesome hurting your arm a bit.

As i said, to some of us mate, it's not all about the money. However, i reckon anyone paying £95k for an R8 now will lose more money than someone paying £75k for an 04 Gallardo over the next year.

I had my Gallardo for 16 months, did 11k miles in it and it never missed a beat

Depreciation worked out at £6500 in total

Buy wisely in Dec/Jan and you should be fine

Buy an R8 if you want a dumpy looking oversized Audi TT that will be common as muck within 6 months and have hardly any 'sense of occasion' about it smile
